invented new and useful Improvements in Decarbonizing-Liquid Injectors and Auxiliary Air Control, of which the followlng 1s a specification.
This invention relates to a decarbonizing liquid injector and auxiliary air control.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, easily operated device through which decarbonizing liquids may be admitted to the cylinders of a gas engine through the inlet manifold, while the engine is in motion.
. A further object is to so construct the device that it may also be utilized as an auxiliary 'air control.
The invention consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a car showing the application of the invention. Fig. 9. is acentral vertical section of the container-showing the position of the valve and pipe connections. F ig. 3 is an outside view. of thecontainer, partly broken away.
Referring to the drawings: A indicates the inlet manifold of a gas engine and B the dashboard of a car.
Suitably secured to the dashboard, as at 2, is a cylindrical-shaped contained 3, having a removable cover 4. Secured to the bottom of the container is a pipe 5, to the upper end of which is secured a valve 6, and connected to the opposite side of the valve'and returning back to the bottom of the chamber is a pipe 7. The valve 5 is provided with an operating or adjusting lever 8, and the container 3 is slotted, as at 9, topermit the end of the lever to project through the cylinder where it may be reached by the, operator.-

1s only possible to drain the container when the engine is'running, as a suction sufiicient to lift the liquid through the U-shaped fitting is necessary before the liquid can escape from the container, and the suction is only obtained when the engine is running. Any possible interference with the carbureteris thus .obviated.
In operation when the engineis running and when it is desired to admit a quantity of decarbonizing liquid, such as' kerosene, to the cylinders, it is accomplished by first removing the cover 4. of liquid is then poured into the container 3 and the cover replaced. The lever S is then turned to open the valve 6, which will im mediately permit the suction of the manifold to draw the liquid out of the container, in withdrawing the llquid being controlled by the position of the valve-6, which may be adjusted by the lever 8. i
The decarbonizing liquid thus injected into the manifold is immediately conveyed to the several cylinders, through the inlet A suitable quantity valves, where it is brought into contact with the carbon deposits within the cylinder.
I wish it understood that undernormal running conditions it will not be necessary to carry any decarbonizing liquid within the container 3. It will therefore be seen that the container is normally empty and is only filled with a decarbonizing liquid when it is needed. a
The piping connected with the manifold with connected valve 6 and container 3, may thus be used as an auxiliary air inlet, and the quantity of air admitted to the manifold may be controlled by adjusting the position of the valve 6; air being permitted to enter through the slot 9 and pipe 7; the pipe 7 being sufficiently removed from the bottom to permit the admission of air, which being'drawn directly from the atmosphere and not being previously affected by the heat. of the engine before entering the container 3, has a tendency to cool the cylinders.
A simple, compact, easily operated and adjustable device is thus provided for inj ecting decarbonizing liquids into the cylinders and which may also be utilized as an auxiliary air control; thus its utility is doubled and the best efliciency and operation of the engine is obtained.
Having thus described my lnvention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In combination with a gas engine manifold, a receptacle, a U+shaped pipe mounted in said receptacle and connected to said manifold, a valve in said pipe, means to operate said valve, said receptacle having a slot through which said means extends to allow the latter to move in said slot so as to enable opening and closing of the valve, said slot also acting as an inlet for air to enable the latter to 'enter the receptacle and be drawn through said pipe to enter the manifold, and a cover for the receptacle.
2. In combination with a gas engine manifold, a receptacle, a U-shaped pipe mounted closing of the valve, said slot also acting as an inlet for air to enable the latter to enter the receptacle and be drawn through said pipe to enter the manifold, and a cover for the receptacle.
