Be it known that I, LAWRENCE M. LEA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hattiesburg, in the county of Forrest and State of Mississippi, have invented new and useful Improvements in Letter- Ties, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in package ties, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature whereby thetension on the cord tends to make the grip on the cord more secure.

Another object of theinvention is to provide the device with a hook at one end about which the cord is passed with a half hitch and which will permit the cord to be tightened around the package by simply pulling on its free end, and which may be untied by pulling the end upwardly in an opposite direction.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simconstructlon, reliable be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.

The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying .drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding eral views and in which Figure l is a perspective view of the device.

Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views illustrating the successive steps in the operation of securing a package by the device.

The string 7 is passed through the hole 4: and the end lmotted to secure it therein. The cord is then wrapped around the package to be tied and the end ,passedover the hooked end in engagement with the edge of the lug and is then brought back and it is provided with a hook passed through the hook and drawn tight. It will be seen that the cord is passed around the hooked end in a half hitch so that the tension of the cord around the package prevents the free end of the cord from slipping. In carrying out these operations the device is held in proper position by the thumb engaging .the enlarged head of the device. When it is desired to untie' the package it is simply necessary topull upwardly on the free end of the cord, as shown in Fig. 4 to release the string from the edge at one end thereof, an upwardly ex tending lug on the opposite edge, and an enlargement at the other end;

Correction in Letters Patent No. 1,324,424.

It is hereby certified that Letters Patent No. 1324,424, granted December 9, 1919, upon the application of Lawrence Moore Lea, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for an improvement in Letter-Ties, were erroneously issued to Adrian K. McInnis, as assignee of the entire interest in said invention, whereas said Letters Patent should have been issued to the inventor, said Lea, and Adrian K. Mclnm's, said McInnis being assignee of one-half interest only in said invention, as shown by the record of assignments in this oifice; and that the said Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Office.
