HERBERT A. SANDBEBG, or GORDON, NEBRASKA.
OIL-CAN SUPPORT.
Application filed March 1, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT A. SANDBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gordon, in the county of Sheridan and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oil-Can Supports, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to supports, and more especially to receptacle stands which are vertically adjustable; and the object of the same is to produce an adjunct for oil or gasolene pumps whereby the can or other 7 liquid receptacle may be set at various heights as is often desirable.
The invention consists in a base having standards, a shelf having blocks movable vertically on said standards, means for rais ing one block and for looking it at the desired height, and connections between the blocks for causing the other block to move at the same speed as the one raised. Details are set forth in the following specification, reference being made to the drawing which shows a perspective view of this device complete, with the can in dotted outlines.
In the drawings the numeral 1 designates a base, which is preferably circular and hollow and raised three or four inches above the floor line, and 2- and 3 are standards rising from the rear and the front side of said base respectively, the standard 3 being notched or provided with teeth as shown at 4. Slidable upon said standards are blocks 5 and 6, the latter provided with a handle as 7 and with a pin 8 handle for engaging between and connected with the blocks is a skeleton structure or shelf 10 of a size and shape to support a can as indicated in dotted lines at C. A cord, cable, or chain 11 is connected with the forward block, passes down adjacent the front standards 3, around a pulley 12 in the base 1, transversely through the base as indicated in dotted lines, around another pulley at the rear sides movable through the of the base as indicated at 13, rises then behind the rear standard 2, passes over a third pulley 14 at the top of the same, and is carried downward and connected with the rear block 5. V 7

and the front edge of the shelf to rise, and
pull on the chain 11 is communicated to the rear block 5 which causes it to rise in unison with the front block. Therefore both front and rear edges of the shelf are raised simultaneously and at equal speed, and whatever is carried on the shelf is maintained constantly in a level condition. When the shelf has been raised to a suficient height, the pin is actuated to engage the proper tooth 4, and the shelf comes to restat that point. On the other hand, when it is desired to lower the shelf, the operation is reversed. This device is in no sense a counter-balance for the weight of the contents of the can or container. It is rather a means for causing both the front and rear edge of the shelf to rise in equal time and at equal speed. In the illustration wherein my invention is adapted to a structure such as described, the rear edge of the shelf is exposed and might of course be grasped by hand; but it is obvious that conditions will occur wherein it is not always posall sides or edges of such shelf, and it must be raised and lowered from one point only. 7
W hat is claimed as new is In an adjustable support of the class described, the combination with a base having front and rear standards rising therefrom,
