To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, RUFUs A. PARENT, a citizen of the United Tacoma, in the county of Pierce and State of lVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable l /Ieasuring-Scoops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an adjustable measure-scoop for teas, coffees, and any powdered substance, and the object of the invention is the construction of a simple and eflicient scoop or scoop-like nieasurer which will be comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
Another object of the invention is the construction of a scoop of a simple structure that willbe easy to handle and manipulate, and which can be readily assembled during the manufacture thereof.
With these and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, illustrated in' the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, the body or receptacle of the measure-scoop is preferably of an oblong structure, and comprises a flat bottom 1, sides 2, and an inclined or scoop endS; the opposite end of the receptacle is closed by the handle 4, which handle is preferably formed of wood sectional view taken on line 7 for cheapening the expense of manufacture,

the body, and the handle, when assembled with the receptacle, constitutes a part thereof.
Integral with the upper edges of the sides 2 are horizontal, outwardly-extending flanges 6.
The slide is formed from a single piece of metal, and comprises a finger-engaging, flat portion 7 with a tongue 8; integral with the fiat portion 7 are flange portions 9, and integral with these flange portions 9 are pointed indicators 10. The flange portions are folded along the dotted lines 11, and the indicators 10 are alsofolded along the dotted lines 12. When the blank is folded, the tongue 8,6Xt811ClS downwardly (Figs. 1 andB) and the flange portions 9 overhang and partly surround the flanges 6 0n the sides 2 (Figs. 4), and the indicators 10 are positioned parallel with the sides 2. The slide ismounted upon the flanges 6 before the handle 4 is placed between the sides and fastened; to remove the slide, all that is necessary is to remove the pins or tacks 5,
detach the handle 4, and then the slide can easily beslid off the receptacle.
Any suitable graduation or measuring marks, as marks 13, can be placed'upon the sides for designating quantities of material to be measured by this measure-scoop; in the particular illustration in Figs. '1 and 2,
ave shown markings for indicating teaspoonfuls and tablespoonfuls of tea or coffee, and itwill be readily understood that when the indicators 10 are contiguous to certain markings as shown, certain proportions ofcofi'ee or tea or the like will be measured by this scoop, at the will of the op erator.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, the flanges 6 are provided with outer toothed or serrated edges 6 and the flange portions 9 of the slide are depressed or indented at 9 to cause a binding action of the slide upon the toothed or serrated edge 6 of the flanges 6 for holding this slide in an adjusted position against accidental dis placement, whereby it will not be necessary for the operator to press upon the slide during the handling or measuring of materials or foods, as is the case with the slide shown in Figs. 1 to 4t. The binding action in this embodiment of the slide upon the flanges 6 is not so great as to cause an undue efiort toadjust the slide by the operator, but is just suificient to lock or retard the slide against accidental displacement after it has been adjusted for measuring a given quantity.
It will be understood from the ioregoing description illustrating the two embodiments of my invention, that certain minoralterations or changes may be made in the manufacture of my measure-scoop, and, therefore, I reserve the right to make such minor alterations or changes as shall appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, and which fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a receptacle including in one end a handle and having at its opposite end an inclined scoop-end, and a slide provided with a depending tongue upon the receptacle and movable between the inclined scoopend and the handle-end.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a receptacle having a handle formed for closing one end and an inclined scoop-like end opposite the handle, and a movable slide for measuring carried by the receptacle between its ends.
3. In adevice of the class described, the combination or" a receptacle provided with sides, said sides provided with flanges, a slide mounted upon said receptacle and provided with flange portions surrounding the flanges of the sides of the receptacle, indicators extending from said flange portions parallel with the sides of the receptacle, and said slide including a depending tongue eX- tending into the receptacle.
l. In a device of the class described, the combination of a receptacle provided with sides, said sides provided at their upper edges with horizontal, outwardly-extending flanges, and a slide provided with a depending tongue extending into the receptacle, said slide mounted upon said flanges and having portions partly surrounding the same, and with depending indicators parallel with the sides.
5. In a device of the class described, the
combination of a receptacle provided with parallel sides, said sides provided with horizontal, outwardly-extending flanges at their upper edges, a slide formed from a single piece of metal and including a; flat fingerengaging portion and an inclined tongue, said finger-engaging portion resting upon the flanges of the sides and said tongue extending down between the sides of the receptacle, said slide also provided with flanges surrounding the first-mentioned flanges, and the last-mentioned flanges provided with integral, depending indicators parallel with the sides of the receptacle.
6. In a device of the class described, the combination of a receptacle, a slide mounted upon said receptacle, and said slide provided with indicators parallel with the outer faces of the sides and with an inclined tongue extending into the receptacle between the sides.
7 In a device of the class described, the combination of a receptacle provided at its upper edges with flat flanges, a slide provided with a flat, finger-engaging portion and with an inclined tongue extending into the receptacle slidably mounted upon said flanges, said flat portion of the slide being provided with flanges at its ends partly surrounding the first-mentioned flanges, and said last-mentioned flanges on the flat portion provided with integral, depending indicators. a
8. In a device of the class described, the combination of a receptacle provided with flanges having toothed or serrated edges, a slide provided with a depending tongue extending into the receptacle, said slide mounted upon said flanges and provided with flanges partly surrounding the flrst-mentioned flanges, and said flanges of the slide provided with means for engaging the toothed or serrated flanges of the receptacle for locking the slide in an adjusted position against accidental displacement.
