A TTOHNEI.
UNITED sTATEs LAMBERT-US `ROSENBAUM, F PATERSON, NEW ERSEY. i
To all whomz't'may concern:
' Bo it known that I, LAMBERTUS ROSEN- iiauii, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paterson, inthe county j of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Mechanical Toys, of `which the following is struction and may be composed principally y of wire so, asto be inexpensive.
Figure l of the accompanying drawing shows the invention in side elevation;
F ig. 2 shows it in front elevation; and
Fig. 3 is a plan of the basal member, certain parts appearing in section. t n
a is the phonograph machine havingl the usual motor-driven rotary ldisk b, provided with the spindle c for centering the record. el.
The device constituting my invention includes a basal member e, in the .form of a suitably shaped plate of wood, with a bentwire extension j at one end which is turned down to form a support for said member and to that end preferably `has a weight g to rest iat upon the top of the fixed structure of the phonograph. Another support for the member e consists of a boss h which is journaled on a vertical 'axis in the member e by means of a pin z', said support depending from the basal member. The boss it is suitably socketed at its lower end to receive the spindle c and snugly lit the same so as to rotate with it.
Upstanding from the member e .is a'support in the form of an arch of wire y, the two legs of which may be formed with loops 7c at their lower ends to receive screws Z, driven into the sides of the member e foi' securing the support rigidly in an upright position. At a suitable height above the member e the legs of said support are bent into the form of loops or coils m which are horizontally opposed to .each other and form bearings, Y
A swinging carrier n in the forni of a U-shaped piece of wire has its free ends o bent off in opposite directions and received in the bearings m. One of these free ends terminates in a crank p having a laterally Speccation of Letters Patent. i

MECHANICAL TOY.
Patented Dec. 9, 1919. sei-iai No. 281,456. i
extending loop g. r designates a doll or other ligure suitably attached to the carriei n. A bell-crank lever 8 formed `of wire, having a loop t formed therein 'to serve as a bearing, is fulcrumed on apin u' in the member e; preferably a hole eis formed in mem- 'bere to receive the loop t, and the pin is driven into the member `eat the edge thereof so as to pass through thek loop. One arm of the bell-crank lever extends upwardly and passes freely through -the loop q; the other arin has a cam-engagement Vwith the boss 7i.' Tliiscani-engagement is preferably foi-med by extending the end of the said other arm of the bell-crank lever into a loop embracing and formed as a spiral around the boss, the boss having a projecting pin w. Preferably a pair of pins project down from the member e and form a guide for the horizontal arm of the bell-crank lever. l
When the parts are at rest the spiral loop embracing the boss it occupies such a position that if the boss be rotated its pin Will depress the horizontal arm of the bell-crank lever by wiping over the cam formed by the spiral loop on the end of said arm. It -will be obvious in view of this that when the phonograph is operating and the spindle c is consequently rotating the boss it and the action of gravity on the parts aie-r and s will alternately act to cause the carrier and the ligure r supported therein to swing back and forth.
The device may be readily detached by simply withdrawing the boss It from the spindle.
Having thus fully described my inveiition, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. In combination, with a basal member having spaced depending supporting portions, one being adapted to rest on the fixed structure of a phonograph machine and the other being rotary and adapted to be fixed on the rotating record-centering spindle of such machine, a support upstanding from said member, a ligure-carrier fulcrumed in said support and having a crank, and a bellcrank lever fulcrumed in said member and having one arm projecting upwardly and having a sliding connection with the crank and its other arm projecting toward said rotary supporting portion and having a camengagement therewith.
2. In combination, with a basalmember having spaced depending supporting ortions, one being adapted to rest on the Xed structure of a phonograph machine and the other being rotary and adapted to be fixed on the rotating record-centering spindle of such machine, a support upstanding from said member, a figure-carrier fulcrumed in said support and having a crank, and a bell-V crank lever fulcrumed in said member and having one arm projecting upwardly and having a sliding connection with the crank and its other arm projecting toward and including a spiral extending around the rotary supporting portion, the latter having a projection engaglng the spiral.
3. In combnaion, vith a basal member having space Yepen ing supporting ortions, one being adapted to rest on the fiked structurey of a phonograph machine and the other being rotary and adapted to'be fixed on the rotating record-centering spindle of such machine, a support upstandm from said member, a bent-wire figure-carrier fulcrumed in said support and having one end ing record-centering spindleof such mac y a gure carrler fulcrumed in the up!"` support and having a crank, and a ,balk-.'40
