STREAM-LINE SHIELD FOR CABLES, STAY-WIRES, AND THE LIKE.
Application filed May 29, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RALPH H. Ursox, a
citizen of the United States, residing at One of the principal objects of my inven 7 tion is to provide for air craft stay Wires a form of shield, which, when properly placed on the w1re, will impart to the same a stream 'line cross section without addingmaterially to the weight of the stay.
The above and additional objects of a similar nature, which will be hereinafter more specifically treated, may be accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the claims which are appended hereto and form a part of this application. I
lVith reference to the drawin wherein there has been illustrated a pre erred embodiment of the invention as it is reduced tov practice, and throughout the several views of which, similar reference numbers designate corresponding parts:

The stream line shield'of my present invention is of very simple constructionand consistsonly of a rubberized strip offabric ,10 and two bead members 11 and 12.
The fabric 10 is preferably cut on the bias so that the threads will extend diagonally across the staywires when the shield is put in place thereon as in Fig. 1. The beads are preferably constructed of rubber and are of similar cross sections as will be Specification of Letters Patent.

Vhile I have described my improved shield as being particularly applicable to stay wires for air craft, I desire it to be understood that it may also be applied to cables .or any other equivalent stay member, strut or brace in air craft. or any other construction where it is desired to impart a stream line cross section to an element not originally possessing such conforn'iation.
WVhatI claim is:
1. As an article of manufacture, a stream line forming structure comprising an elongated fabrlc element and a plurality of elongated mating members encompassed by the fabric element and connected thereby in spaced-apart relation, each of said members comprising a relatively fiat surface adapted to mate with the corresponding flat surface of the other member, and an outer protecting surface, the fabric element comprising a section between the mating members and conformable to the structure which it embraces.
2. As an article of manufacture, a stream line forming structure comprising an elongated fabric element and a plurality of elongated mating members; said fabric element being flexible to lie substantially flat when not in use, and being also conformable to the structure which it is to shield, the members having two relatively fiat surfaces, adapted when in use to contact with each other. and curved outer protecting surfaces.

5. A shield for cables, stay wires, struts and the like, including an elongated, rubberized fabric element having its threads extending diagonally, and a pair-of bead members encompassed by portions of the rubberized fabric element, said members composed of rubber and being substantially similar in cross-section and having substantially abutting surfaces, the members mating to form a substantially wedge-shaped rib extending away from the article embraced by the fabric element, and cemented to impart a stream line conformation to the'shield.
6. .An article of manufacture comprising a strip of flexible material and having at its edges separated, flexible, bead-like elements, said bead-like elements adapted to be secured together to form a stream line envelop for cables, stay-wires, struts and the like.

An article of manufacture comprising a relatively narrow strip of flexible material and having at its edges flexible bead-like elements spaced apart on said strip, said bead-like elements being substantially wedge shape in form and being adapted to be secured together to form a stream line envelop for cables, stay-wires, struts and the like.

An article of manufacture comprising a relatively narrow strip of flexible material and having at its edges, and encompassed by said fabric, flexible bead-like elements spaced apart on said strip, said bead-like elements being substantially wedge shape in form and being adapted to be secured together to form a stream line envelop for cables, stay-wires, struts and the like.
5). An article of manufacture comprising a strip of flexible material and having at its edges separated rubber bead-like elements, said bead-like elements adapted to be secured together to form a stream line envelop for cables, stay-wires, struts and the like.
10. An article of manufacture comprising a strip of rubberized fabric and having at its edges separated flexible bead-like elements, said bead-like elements adapted to be secured together to form a stream line envelopfor cables, stay-wires, struts and the like.
