issues;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JUSTIN A. CLARKE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Vincennes, in the county of Knox and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Swimming-Webs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the-accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a swimming web and has for its object the production of a simple and efficient web which may be placed upon the fingers of the swimmer and held thereon to facilitate his swimming through the water.
Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and efficient swimming web which consists of a minimum number of parts and which is provided with suitable tubular finger receiving portions properly spaced to permit the user of the swimming web to efliciently propel himself through the water in which he is swimming. ith these and other objects in view'this invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings 2-- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the swimming web mounted upon the fingers. of-the user.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the web.
seen that 1 designates the body of the swimmingweb which is formed of a single sheet of material and constitutes an inner layer 2 and an outer layer 3. The inner and outer layers are stitched firmly together by means of the stitches 4 to seal the portion of the web between the tubular finger receiving portions 5. The inner and outer edges 6 and 7 are preferably folded over or *backwardly upon the body of the web for producing a bead 8 as shown clearly in Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5, 1918. Application filed November 20, 1917. Serial No. 203,009.
Fig. 3 which head is stitched by means of a l row of stitches 9. g
The present device may be made of rubberized cloth as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 or the same may be made of rubber as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. Where rubber is used, the ad oining surfaces of the body are cemented or vulcanized together.
In both of the forms shown in the Figs. 2 and 4, the outer layer is folded over or upon the top of the inner layer of the body and the outer ends 10 of these layers 2 and 3 are stitched parallel with the entire length present device may be very readily folded and packed away in the minimum amount of space.
What is claimed is As a new article of manufacture, a swimming web comprising a body portion formed from a single piece of material and folded over to constitute an inner and an outer layer, said inner and outer layer being secured together upon their fidJOlIllIlg faces and provided with a plurality of tu-' bular fingers and a tubular thumb-portion at spaced intervals, said body provided with folded-over portions upon 1ts outer and inner edges and parallel with andextending the entire length of the tubular thumb-portion, the folded-over upper and inner edges and the parallel edge with the tubular. thumb-portion constituting a reinforcing bead around three of the edges of the body, the beads between the tubular finger and thumb-portions constitutlng reinforcments for the entire body, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
JUSTIN. A. CLARKE.
