Be it known that'l, NrcnoLAs F.BUCK- Liar, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles have invented a new and useful Hydrocarbon-Burner, of which the following is a speci cation.
This invention relates to hydrocarbonoxygen burners and may be used in connection with an air-pressure tank, or a cylinder of oxygen gas, or a special steamer providing water in form of steam-gas, or vapor; particularly adapted for burning of crude petroleum of asphaltum base, so as to afford acomplete and perfect oxygenation .and combustion of all the carbon molecules which otherwise escape free and unburned, causing a smoking flame known as soot or lamp-black.
-One object of the. invention is to proractical burners which are particularly adapted for the use of crude petroleum of either asphaltum or paraffin base, or their various derivative fluids of light or heavier gravity, as well as for use of any fuel in liquid form.
Another object is to provide a burner which will fit on any stove for cooking and heating; also on baking ovens up to the largest size of steam bakeries, etc; also for hot-water furnaces, steamers and boilers of any description; such burners individually adapted for the different hydrocarbon fluids of various gravity and density, which could not otherwise be burned to advantage all through the same burner-head.

which the different detail parts are attached, or in relation to which the several detail parts are arranged to give the results as hereafter described. .The base plate is provided with an opening 1 through which the air supply pipe 5 is disposed, having a funnel 6 provided on its lower end and allowing the air supply to discharge into the airchimmey or flue 7, which forms in this device the retort for preheating the air. The cups, pans, or receptacles 8 are provided for igniting the oil when starting the burner. Practically concentric to the cups 8, the burner necks 9 are projecting upwardly forming the means for securing the burnerheads and several supply connections. The burner heads 10 are removably and exchangeably disposed over the burner necks 9, a suitable number of suitable form ofburner heads or gas jets are supplied to the device for use with different gravity fuel. The air supply pipes 11 are disposed through the burner necks minating suitably so as to discharge the air into the burner head or gas jet 10. The fuel supply pipes 12 terminate within the air supply pipes 11, and smaller air or oxygen supply pipes 13 terminate within the fuel supply pipes. The free ends of the airsuppl pipes constitute the intake funnels 14. l 'he free ends 15 of the fuel supply pipes are communicating with the connections 16. The free ends 17 of the smaller air supply pipes 13 are inserted sidewise through the connections 16 terminating in the funnels 18. To hold the upper ends of the fuel supply pipes within the air supply pipes 11 in the smaller sition within the fuel bosses or projections 19 are provided on outside of the smaller air supply pipes 13 and on the outside of the fuel supply pipes 12, slightly touching the inner walls of the surrounding next. pipes, as will easily be understood.

The smaller air supply pipes 13 are especially provided to inject steam or oxygen through the gas jets or burner heads, at a point where such is most useful.
.To provide for surplus air in certain fuel oils of difierent gravity, the side arms 21 are arranged so as to supply extra air from the sides of the air retort 7 at about the point indicated at 22. Other arms 23, indicated in dotted lines, may be provided at the opposite side of the retort 7. Thus, I wish it underdo not limitmyself to the speclhc form shown in the drawing, but that the air may be supplied fromany'suitable point or part as long as the mixing is procured between the free ends of the air retort head, in combination With the different supply pipes within connection from below the burner head, as described above. 7
