Be it known that I, GUSTAV B. KEIL, a citizen of the United States` and av resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gearing; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being' had to the acompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forni a part of this specication.
This invention relates to improvements in gearing and consists of the matters hereinafter 'described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
The improved gearing is herein illustrated as applied to a washing machine of the cylinder type, the present invention including means for driving and controlling a wringer mounted on the washing machine Vand which may be swung in a horizontal plane into any position, desired by the operator without destroying the driving connection between said wringer and the other parts of the gearing.
The many advantages of my invention will appear as I proceed with my 'specification.

Figure 1 is a view representing a front end elevation of a washing machine of the cylinder type, 1to which a gearing embodying my invention is applied.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view representing a side elevation of the same, with the wringer swung' into a position at a right angle to that shown in Fig. 1.

Referring now in detail to that embodiment of my invention illustrated in the drawingsz--lO indicates a main support for the gearing which, asillustrated in this particular instance` is the tub of a washing machine of the drinn or cylinder type. The tub is mounted at its corners upon upright legs,

of the said legs, of course, having casters and V being suitably connected to each other in a manner and for the purpose well known. The front pair of legs 11, 12, are suitably connected together at their top ends by a transversely extending angle bar 13, the horizontal flange of which is spaced below the top ends of said legs, and the lbottoml ends of said legs are connected by a smaller angle bar 14. l
The tub 10 is made of sheet metal and includes an upright front wall 15 which is spaced back of or within the vertical plane ofthe legs 11 and 12. A horizontal plate 16 (see Fig. 3) forms 'a top closure for the space between said front wall 15 and the angle bar 13 at the top of said legs. The plate 16 is bent about the upright flange of the angle bar 13 and terminates in an upright, transversely extending wall 17 arranged in the plane of the front faces of the legs 11 and 12. To the bottom edge of the wall 17 is hinged an apron or door 18 which provides a closure for the space between said legs Il and 12 and the front wall 15 of the tub body 10. The said front wall 15 is extended upwardly and forwardly from the plate 16 into the plane of the top'edge of the angle bar 13 where it is attached to a second horizontal plate 19 which forms in effect a continuation of a lid 2O for the tub body. This lid is of familiar construction and is capable of being` raised into an open position to give access toA the interior of th'e tub body.

A bell crank lever 5G mounted on the bracket has a depending arm 5e which engages with said clutch collar, while its laterally extendingarm 59 projects through an opening 60 (see Fig. 2) in 'the side Wall ofthe tub body near the front leg ll. The bearing block 77 projects for some ydistance beyond the top of the horizontal plate 19 forming a part of the tub body 10 where it is reduced in diameter to provide a sleeve 7S and upon which is rotatively mounted a bracket 80. Said bracket is adapted to be attached to and support a wringer 8l iii such manner that the wringer may beswung horizontally about the -shaft 76 as an axis, in any desired position, there being means for locking the bracket and ivringer in said desired position. The bracket 80 comprises a tubular sleeve 82 which is adapted to be mounted on the sleeve 7 S before mentioned, and a laterally extending arm 83 which isadapted for attachment to the frame of the ivringer 8l. The top pai. of the sleeve SZ'teiminates in a shell 84, which, together with a removable cap piece 85, forms a gear casing, as will soon be apparent. The laterally extending arm 83 includes a bearing sleeve 86 in #,vi'liich .is journaled the propecting end of lthe lower Wri'nger roll shaft 81', a b'evel gear 87 being fixed yto that endvof said shaft within the gear casing formed by the shell S4: and the cap 85 before mentioned. The gear 87 meshes with a similar gear S8 fixed to the top end of the upright shaft 7 6 before mentioned. A hand Wheel 90 is screwthreaded through vthe sleeve 82 of the' bracket 80 and and by means of] which the said bracket and associated Wringeriare held-in the desired, adjusted'horizontal position.
It is apparent that by means of the tiva part controlling lever 62 before described, the clutch 55 on the shaft 50 may. be brought into operative engagement avith either of the gears 51, 52, so'that said shaft 50 may be rotatively driven in either direction.

I claim as my invention:
