Description

C. F. GOTTFMED.
EAR AIR DOUCHE.
Armcmon FILED. suma. ma.
- 1 3 4 Patented Dec. 2,1919. 1
Gov-mam CONRAD rnrnnnron oor'rrninn, or BnooKLYn, new YORK.
nan aIn-nouonn Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 2', rein.
Application filed September 25, 1918. Serial No. 255,682.
To all whom it may concern:
Be 1t known that I, CONRAD F. Go'r'rrnmn, a citizen of the Unlted States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ear Air-Douches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in ear air douches.
An important object of this invention is to provide an ear air douche adapted for use in connection with the treatment of different diseases of the ear resulting from explosions, loud' noises, heavy bombardments and catarrh.
A further object of this invention is-to provide an apparatus of the character described comprising a semi-bulbous shaped shell adapted to fit over the ear and prevent access of air to the ear other than the air supplied by a medical air pump machine.
A further object of the invention is to provide a douche of the character described comprising a semi-bulbous shaped shell having a centrally disposed tube adapted to'extend into the earhole to convey the air from the medical air pump machine directly into the ear. A further object of the invention is to provide a douche of the character described comprising a semi-bulbous shaped shell and a centrally disposed air supply tube arranged therein, said bulbous shaped shell having a pair of exhaust apertures therein to permit of the exit of the air upon leav ing the ear. 7
A furtherobject of the invention is to provide a douche of the character described which may be used in conjunction with medical air pump machines or electro-medical machines in the treatment of diseases of the ear.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying'drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a douche apparatus embodied in my invention, and
now supplied from the medical air Fig. 2 is a central vertical longitudinal section taken through the same.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a semi-bulbous shaped shell, which in manufacture may be of glass or any other desired material. The lower edge of the semi-bulbous shaped shell 5 is provided with an outwardly extending annular flange 6, adapted to fit over the outside of the ear and effect an airtight engagement of the shell with the ear. Formed integral with the semi-bulbous shaped shell 5 and arranged on its outer face and centrally thereof is a cylindrical member 7 having a longitudinally extending axial opening 8. Formed integral with the cylindrical memher 7, and alining with the axial opening 8, is a glass tube 9 having its forward end portion tapered, as at 10. A relatively small piece of flexible tubing 11 is adapted to be connected with the forward end portion 10 of the tube 9. The flexible tubing 11 is adapted to extend directly into the earhole for the purpose of supplying air thereto during the process of the air treatment. Qppositely arranged exhaust apertures 12 are disposed in the sides of the shell 5, and are adapted to permitof the exit of the air from the shell.
A collar or coupling 14 is adapted to be arranged over the cylindrical member 7, and has a tubular member 15 formed integral therewith. The tubular member 15 is in line with the axial opening 8 of the cylindrical member 7 The tubular member 15 and the collar 14 are preferal'lly of a metal and are adapted for connection with a medical air pump machine adapted to supply the air to the car during the douching process.
In the use of my improved douche appa ratus, it will be apparent that the shell 5 is placed over the ear, thus efiecting an airtight engagement. Practically simultaneous with the application of the shell to the ear or head, the flexible tubing 11 is inserted into the earhole to convey the air directly to the point where it is most desired. The air is pump machine, and the process of douching the ear completed.
' While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is understood that I may make such minor changes in construction and arrangementof cal memberand having a reduced attaching parts, as will remain within the spirit of the tube, a glass tube formed integral with said invention and the scope of the appended cylindrical memloer andaflexible tube conclaim. nected to the glass tube; 5 Having thus described my invention, what Intestimony whereof I afiix my signature 15 I claim is: in'presence of twowitnesses.
