This invention relates to an improvement in bases for electricians. In the more general arrangement of supports for electric fans, they are adapted to turn in one direction to a certain distance, and then in the opposite direction. 3
The object of this invention is to provide a base upon which an electric fan may be mounted and which may make a complete revolution caused by the motion of the fan; and the invention consists in certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention I employ a base 5 of any suitable design, preferably round, so as to, provide an annular wall 6,
and the base is also formed with a centrally arranged tubular bearing? formed in its upper end with a runway 8 for anti-friction balls 9. In connection with this base I employ a base plate 10 preferably round, and corresponding in diameter to the wall 6 and formed with a centrallyarranged post 11 the lower end 12 of which enters an opening or recess 13 formed for it in thebottom of the base 5, and near its upper end with a runway 14 for the balls-9, and so that the base plate is adapted to freely revolve in the base. trical engagement with a plug 21'mou-nted in one sideof the base and through which a connection with electric power wires22 and 23 may be made.v The rings15 andl6 are also connected to wires 24 and 25 by which electrical connection may be made with 'a screw plug 26 carrying wires 27 and; 28 which lead to the motor 29 of an electric fan. Superimposed-upon the base plate 10 is a fanp'late 30 which is provided with clamps 31 by which the base 32 of a fan may be connected with the fan plate. This fan plate is connected with the base plate 10 through the plug 26 so that the fan plate is eccentrically pivoted to the base plate.
The fan plate is formed with a tangential slot 33 through which a bolt 34 extends, the bolt being mounted in the base plate and provided with a thumb nut 35 by which the fan plate may be clamped to the base plate in various positions, the slot 33 being concentric with the pivotal point of the fan plate.
The fan being applied to the fan plate and electrically connected so as to be driven, will, by the impingement of the blades against the air, force the fan plate, and hence the base plate, to revolve, and the rapidity of revolution may be regulated by adjusting the fan plate on the base plate, as it is obvious that if the fan plate is concentric with the base plate, the fan will not revolve, but when the fan plate is moved so that the center of the fan is moved away from the center of the base plate, the base plate will be caused to revolve.
I claim 1. A base for electric fans comprising a base provided with a central bearing, a base plate formed with a central post seated in said bearing, said post provided with insulated bands, brushes in contact with said bands, said brushes connected with the source of electrical supply, wires connected with said bands and leading to a plug mounted in the base plate, a fan plate eccentrically pivoted to the base plate and adapted to be adjustably secured thereto.
