GEORGE G G-AREY, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
I STOVE AND FURNACE.
improvement upon the structuredisclosed in tober 20, 1 914. i
One of "the objects of the invention is to provide an improved form of magazine for feeding fuel to the fire pot, saidmagazine having simple and efiicient means for supplying air in smallquantities to the lower portion of the body of fuel contained within the magazine and for carrying off any gases which might accumulate within the upper portion of the magazine and directing said gases downwardly into the fire pot where they will be consumed.
Another object is to reduce the cost of the device and to provide novel means whereby the flues upon the magazine can be coupled easily to a supply flue, said connections being shorter, thereby to permit the air to circulate more readily and said connections being also contained entirely within the casing of the stove so that there w1ll be no leakage of air or gases through the connectlons, as might occur should said connections or any portion thereof be located outside of the casing.
With the foregoing and other objects in as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a central vertical section through a stove embodying the present'improvements, the base and top being shown in elevation.
Fig. 2 is a section on line AB Fig. 1.
*Fig. 3 is a section on line C-D Fig. 1,
Patent No. 1,114,248, issued to me on Oc- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 18, 1919.
Application filed April 2, 1916. Serial No. 90,680.
the upper section-ofthe magazine being removed to show the lower section in plan. Fig.4 is a section on line EF Fig. 1. Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates the base of the stove onwhich is arranged a tire pot 2 which can be of approximately the structuredisclosed in .Patent No. 1,139,857,.issued to me .on May 18, 1915. The upper portion of the fire pot is surrounded by an annular air flue 3. preferably cast integral with the fire pot and having an inlet 4 which may be closed by a damper ,5 or .by any other suitable means.
The stove casing 6 is mounted on the fire pot, .the lower end ofthe casing being surrounded by an said casing'is held properly centered. EX- tending inwardly and upwardly from the flue 3 is an elbow 8 in communication with the flue and adapted to be detachably engaged byth lower end of a connecting flue 9 which extends along the inner side of the casing 6 up to an annular flue 10 surrounding a magazine 11. This magazine is suspended within the casing 6. The magazine has a closure 12 at its upper end located under a feed spout or hopper 13. Thus when the closure is shifted, fuel may be fed through the spout or hopper into the magazine. The magazine is preferably enlarged downwardly by providing a series of steps or offsets 14 and the lower portion of the magazine is preferably formed of a piece separate from the upper portion. The meeting ends of the upper and lower sections of the magazine are surrounded by the annular flue 10 and at desired intervals this annular flue communicates with the interior of the magazine through ports 15. The lower end of the magazine is formed with segmental recesses forming arches and extending along the outer side of the magazine between these recesses and from the flue 10 to the lower end of the magazine are ribs 16 each of which is hollow to provide a flue 17 whereby air may be discharged downwardly along the outer side of the magazine and distributed to the fuel through upstanding rib 7 Iwhereby It will be apparent that when fuel is burning in the fire pot :2 and the magazine 11 is filled with fuel, air entering the flue 3 through the inlet 1 will circulate around then flow through the elbow the fire pot and 8 into th flue 9 which will conduct the air to the annular flue 10. From this annular fine the air will be sprayed downwardly in small jets through the fines 17 onto the fuel and small additional amounts will be discharged through the ports 15 into the lower portion of the fuel containedin the magazine. Thus a thorough mixture of air with the products of combustion is secured and the formation of smoke is practically eliminated. Any gases which may arise within the magazine will be free to flow outwardly through the port 18 into flue 19 through which they will be sucked downwardly by the air escaping through the flues 17 and the ports 15. Consequently all danger of explosion of gas within the magazine is eliminated.
It will be noted that the casing can be readily mounted on the fire pot and that all of the connections between the magazine and the annular flue 3 are arranged within the casing so that there is no danger of air or gas leaking from the stove.
1 That is claimed is T he herein described stove or furnace consisting of a fire pot, a casing above the fire pot, an annular flue at the joint of the casing and fire pot having air inlets, control means for said inlets, a vertical flue leading upward from said annular flue, a suspended magazine having air circulating openings, an annular flue surrounding the magazine and communicating with the vertical flue, a series of fines leading downward from said annular flue and a flue extending from the upper portion of the annular flue to the top of the magazine, all combined and operating as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
I GEORGE G. GAREY. Witnesses:
R. E. HEMMETER,
D. E. CARPENTER.
