To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN A. CHAMBERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newburg, in the county of Phelps and State of Missouri, have invented a new and use ful Door-Operating Mechanism, of Wliltll the following isv a specification.
This invention relates to door operating mechanism and its principal object is to provide a mechanism of this character which will open and close a heavy door such as a refrigerator door with great facility.

A further object of the invention to provide a door operating mechanism which is easily and quickly operated.
A still further object of the invention resides in the provision of a door operating mechanism which is neat in appearance and which does not possess any cumbersome parts which are likely to become broken.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a door operating mechanism which is simple in construction, consists of few parts which may be, readily assembled and disassembled, and which may be manufactured and installed at a minimum cost.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent from the following specification and accompanying drawing.
The invention consists of consti-notions, combinations, arrangements, and general assemblage which will be specifically referred to and illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein 1- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a refrigerator having my door operating mechanism applied thereto.

Referring in detail to the drawing wherein like characters of reference indicate like parts the numeral 5 designates a swinging refrigerator door of usual construction hinged to the Wall 6 of the refrigerator.
Extending vertically from the door 5 is a post 7 to which is attached a flexible element 8 that extends through a pulley 9 on the bracket 10 whi h is secured to the wall (5 of the refrigerator. This flexible element 8 runs along the top of the refrigerator and thence downwardly and through a pulley 11 to a point where it may be grasped by the operator. By pulling on this flexible element the door 5 is swung to a closed po sition.
One end of a lever 12 is pivotally mounted in a bracket .18 positioned on the wall 6. A stop 14- projerts from the wall to limit the downward movement of the lever. The flexible element 8 is attached to the end of the lever and extends between the sheaves 11 and thence to a position where it may be grasped by the operator.
Mounted on the wall 6 above the door 5 'IS an inverted V shaped bracket 17. Braces 18 extending from the wall 6 are positioned upon either side of the bracket 17 and are connected thereto.
Pivotally mounted in the bracket 17' is a door opening member 18 of eccentric formation. This eccentric shaped member is edapted to engage a vertically extending post 19 mounted at the forward end of the door. The inner face of the post 19 is inclined. Links or other flexible elements are suspended from the lever 12 and are connected with the member 18.
The operation of my improved door operating mechanism is as follows:
The door being in closed position the op erator pulls the flexible element 8 which causes the eccentric member 18 to be swung outwardly where it engages the post 19 and forces the door open. When it isdesired to close the door, it is only necessary to pull the flexible element 8 and the door will be drawn to closed position.
This embodiment of the invention is considered to be preferred construction but I wish to here state that the invention may be modified in many different respects and that my limits of modification are only governed by the herewith appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a door operating mechanism, the combination with a swinging door, of a post secured to the door and projecting beyond one edge of the same and having its inner face inclined, an eccentric shaped member pivoted adjacentv the door and movable at right-angles to the inclined face of the post and movable thereover, a lever pivotally connected with the eccentric shaped member, and means for moving the lever thereby to rock the eccentric shaped member to move the same over and against the post to open the door.
2. In a door operating mechanism, a swinging door, an inverted V shaped bracket mounted above the door, an eccentric shaped member pivotally mounted in the bracket, a post carried by the door adapted to be engaged by the eccentric shaped member to move the door to an open position, a lever mounted above the door and operatively connected with the eccentric member, a flexible element for operating the lever, and means for closing the door.
3. In door operating mechanism a swinging door, a vertical post carried by the door and projecting above the upper edge of the same and having its inner face inclined, a bracket of inverted Vshaped formation, an eccentric shaped member pivoted to the bracket and engageable with the inclined face of the post and having its inner end laterally bent upwardly, a lever pivoted adjacent the eccentric shaped member having operative connection with the upturned end of the eccentric shaped member, and a flexible element having one end secured to the free end of the lever Where upon pulling the same the lever Will be rocked to rock the cocentric shaped member into engagement with the inclined face of the post to open the door.
