Description
w. s. POTWIN;
Improvement in Dust-Pans.
No. 132,176. Patented Oct. 15,1872.
Witnesses Inventor UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM S. POTWDT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO FRANK STURGES & 00., OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN DUST-FANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,176, dated October 15, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM S. PoTwIN, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dust-Pans, of which the ibllowingis a full, clear, and exact description, which will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had in so doing to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a dust-pan provided with my improvements; and Fig. 2, a top view of the same, showing the application of the improvement to one of the purposes to which it is intended.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts.
My invention consists in providing the dustpan with an adjustable heel or support, which also serves as a brush-holder.
In the drawing, A represents the dust-pan, and B its handle. C is a bent wire passed freely through perforations in the handle. This wire is bent so as to prevent too great lateral movement, and so that it may be arranged in the position shown in Fig. 2, and suspend or support a brush. When the wire is in the position shown in Fig. 1 it serves as a heel to support the pan in an inclined position, and also as a brush-holder, in which case the brush is arranged in the hooks formed by the wire. The adjustability of the wire admits of a choice in the manner of holding the brush, and also of the pan being brought to a horizontal position on the floor when such a position is desirable.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a dust-pan, a pivoted and adjustable heel or support and brushholder, substantially as and for the purposes 7 specified.
WILLIAM S. PO'IWIN.
