State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Fastening Devices for Sound-Boxeaof which the following is a specification. I

' My invention relates to a device for se curing the reproducer, commonly called a sound-box, of a talking machine to the tonearm, and has for its objects to produce a device whereby the reproducer will be securely held to the tone-arm, and at the same time permit of the independent movement of the sound-box and tone-arm ztransversely to their axes. Such independent movement will permit said box to vibrate freely, and the sound box will not be subject to any shocks or strains due to sudden or abrupt movementof the t0ne-arm.- A further-object is to provide meansfor easily applying the sound-box to the tone-arm, and the ready removal therefrom, and to allow for adjustment of the sound-box relatively to the tone-arm.

A further object is to produce a device which will be simple and inexpensive to manufacture, and eilectivein operation.

I have illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts in all of the several figures.

Figure 1 is a plan view of a tone-arm and sound-box embodying my invention;

In the drawings, 1 designates the tonearm which may. be constructed of wood, veneering, metal or other suitable material. Carried by the tone-arm l, is a reproducer 2 having therein a diaphragm 3 and having its inner portion projecting into the tonerarm and spaced from the Walls thereof, so as to permit of an independent movement of the reproducer transversely of the axes of the tone-arm and reproducer. To the center of the diaphragm 3 is attached a stylus bar 4 which carries a socket 5, in which there is a stylus 6. The socket 5 has secured to'it. a

Attached to and projecting from the tonearm 1 is a serles of spring fingers 9, con

structed of spring steel and shaped to enbut, I desire it understood that I do not limit my invention to this particular arrangement, as the spring fingers may be held in place upon the tone-arm by means of a metallic ring sprung over the spring fingers and secured or tightened by a screw or other suitable means, or they may be heldin place in any other suitable or desired manner.

Between the sound-box 2 and the end of the tone-arm 1 1 preferably place an annular' cushion 11 to prevent escape of sound.

Waves and to prevent rattling.

The sound-box can be easily removed from its supporting means by a slight forward movement. i

To place the sound-box in the retaining means, it is necessary to insert one side of the box first and then press the spring 9 slightly outwardly by means of the sound-box.

In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes, 1 have described the principle apparatus which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but I desire to have it understood that the apparatus shown is merely illustrative, and that the invention can be carried out in other ways.

Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A fastening device for securing soundboxes to tone-arms of talking machines, comprising a series of, spring fingers fixed to and pro ecting beyond the end ofthe tonearm and adapted to fit and engage the pein the drawings, they ripheral edge ofthe sound-box, to removably and yieldingly hold said sound-box. in place. 1 a

A'fasteningw device for securing soundboxes to tone-arms of talkingmachines, comprising/a band fitted upon the end of the I tone-arm, a series of spring fingers fixed to and projecting from the end of the tone-arm and adapted to;fitand engage the peripheral edge of a sound box, to removably and yieldingly hold said -sound-box in place.

'3. A fastening device for securing soundboxes to tone-arms of talking machines, comprising a series of spring fingers fixed to and the tone-arm,

to permit relative movement of the soundbox and tone-arm transversely to the axes thereof. 4. In a device for securing sound-boxes to tone-arms of talking machines, a tone-arm, a sound-box having a portion extending into and spaced'from the inner walls of the end of the tone-arm, and means engaging the end of the tone-arm and the peripheral edge of the sound-boxjt yieldingly hold said sound-box in place, to thereby permit relative movement between s 'd sound-box and tone-arm transversely o the axes thereof.
