Be it known that I. ALBERT VOIGT, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drawer-Carriers, of which the following isa. specification.
This invention relates to carriers or supports for drawers and the like, such as drawers for wall or show cases and the like, and it is the primary object of the invention to improve the construction of carriers of this type to sim lify the construction and increase the e ciency thereof by reducing to a minimum the fric-tional resistance as a drawer is moved outward from and into its casing.
It is a further object of the. invention to provide a carrier of this type in which the drawer is carried or supported upon rollers wherebythe, drawer is rigidly supported in all positions onthe carrier and the drawer with the load carried thereby is carried upon the rollers substantially centrally thereof with the load at all times equalized upon the rollers.
A further object of' the invention is to provide a drawer carrier or support of this type in which the drawer is releasably connected to the carrier whereby it may be readily and quickly removed without the necessity of removing any parts such as screws or the like.
In carrying out the invention I provide a guide to loe fixed in the casing for a drawer, which guide is in the form of a channel bar, the flanges of which bar constitute opposite runways, and provide an eXtensible slide consisting. of releasable sections, one
section being in the form of a channel bar, the flanges of which also constitute opposite runways, to engage in the guide and supported by rollers upon one of the runways in the guide to have a limited to and fro movement and a roller carried by said slide section being adapted to engage with the runway of the guide opposite to that upon which the supporting rollers run. The other slide se'ction has a part to interlock with and slidably engage in the opening in the first slide section to havealimited to and fro movement with relation to said first slide section, and having an angle portion to engage with and support said slide section upon rollers adapted to ruii upon one of the fianges of its companion slide and having a roller to run upon the opposite flange of said guide, the latter slide section having a part to removably connect a drawerthereto and support the drawer thereby to have movement with said section. Means are provided to releasably connect the slide sections, whereby as said drawer is moved inward substantially midway into the casing -the slide sections will be automatically locked together so that the slide sections will be moved concomitantly into the casing to the full extent with the drawer supported and moving on the rollers in the guide through the extensible slide, and during the outward movement of the dra-wer it will be supported upon said rollers tosubstantially midway of this outward movement when the slide sections will be automatically released and during the further outward movement of the drawer it will be supported upon the rollers in the slide section of channel form through the slide section to which the drawer is connected.

While a drawer carrier constructed in accorda-nce with the embodiment of the invention shown in the drawings in practice is used and applied to opposite sides of the drawer, these carriers are in duplicate'and identical and a detailed description of the construction and operation of only one of said carriers will suiiice for a clear understanding 'of the invention.
The embodiment of the drawer carrier as illustrated in the drawings has been designed to be particularly applicable to drawers for wall cases, and the invention has been illustrated and will be described in connection with such a structure, the casing being shown in a general way by 10 and ladapted to receive one or more drawers having sides 11, 11, a bottom 12 and ends 13, 13, the width of the drawer in the rear of the front end or wall beiiig less than the width of the4 chamber in which it slides to provide a space for the'drawer carrier at opposite sides ofthe drawer.
Thedrawer carrier consists of a channel bar guide 14 with the rear end 14"closed and securedvina vertical position to the side of the 'casing' with the opening in said bar at the side as shown. The upper flange is of slightly less width'than the lower flange, and the flanges have offset flanges 15, 16 whereby the channel bar fianges 14 constitute opposite runways for rollers to be hereinafter described.
The drawer is carried and supported by an extensible slide comprising a pair of sections 17, 18. The section 18 is bent up from a sheet to form substantially a channel bar with the rear end 18 closed and with one of the flanges, as 19, of less width than the opposite ange 20 and a depending portion 23 constituting a continuation or extension of the connection portion of the flanges 19 and 20. Each of the ianges has an offset flan- ge 21, 22 to-adapt the flanges of the channel bar as opposite runways for rollers. This slide section 18 engages in the gulde 14 and is so proportioned that the offset flange 21 will engage in the opening and be in line with the offset flange 16 of the guide, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The slide section 18 has to and fro movement in the guide for which purpose it is supported upon rollers 24 running upon the lower fiange or runway of the guide, said rollers being pivotally supported and spaced apart or separated by a carrier 25. This carrier is of channel shape in cross section with the open side at the bottom and is of such size and the rollers pivotally supported thereby that it will clear the runway for the rollers and a peripheral portionV of the rollers will pass through openings therein to be engaged by the slide section 18 to support the v latter. Rotatably supported adjacent the rear end of the slide section is a roller 26, a portion of said roller extending through an opening in the upper flange 19 of said slide section to engage with the upper runway of the guide. During the to and fro movement of said slide section it will ride upon the rollers 24 and said rollers with their Carrier will ride along the lower runway of the guide, the inward movement of the slide section being limited by the engagement thereof with the end wall of the guide, a suitable cushion 27 taking up any shock as the slide section abuts against said end, and the outward movement is limited by the forward end of the roller carrier 25 engaging with a stop 28 removably secured in the lower. runway of the guide and a stop 29 depending from the slide section engaging with the rear end of the roller carrier 25, suitable cushions 30, 30 being carried at the ends of said roller carrier to take up any shock incidental to the abutting of the carrier against the stop 28 and the stop 29 abutting against the roller carrier. These cushions may be in the form of a felt pad carried by staples 31 engaging in slots in the 95 end of the roller carrier formed by bending the ends of the flanges of the roller carrier inward. The stop 28 carries a roller 32 rotatable on a vertical axis, a portion of the periphery of the roller passing through a slot in the offset flange 16 of the guide to engage with the side of the drawer to facilitate the sliding of the drawer into the casing.
The slide section 17 has a laterally extending flange portion substantially of channel shape in cross section, as shown at 33, in which the lower edge of the side of the drawer engages. The ends of the channel flange are closed, as at 34, with the closed end at the rear abutting against the rear end of the side of `the drawer and the wall to close the front end engaging in a transverse slot in the bottom edge of the drawer side. At the upper end the slide section 17 has a lateral flange portion substantially of channel shape in cross section, as shown at '35. It will be understood that this flange extends from the slide section opposite to the vflange 33. The flange 35 engages inthe open side of the slide section 19 and over a roller carrier 36, similar to the carrier 25, and is supported thereinito have to and fro movement upon rollers 37 rotatably carried and separated by the carrier 36. At the rear side the slide section 17 rotatably carries a roller 38 with a portion thereof passing through a slot in the iiange 35 to engage with and run upon the upper flange 19 of the slide section 18. .The outward move- .the roller carrier 36 to take up the shockfas the stops engage with the carrier, similar to the cushions at the end of the carrier 25.

downwardly extending portion 43 of the slide at the end engaging with a vdownwardly bent portion 26 of the uppei` flange of the guide 14 of the section 18 to form the slot for the passage of the roller 26.
The extension support sections 17, 18 are adapted to be releasably connected by a hooked latch 41 pivotally carried within the section 18 adjacent the rear and has a depending portion 42 to serve as a counterweight to maintain the latch in the normal position shown in Fig. 5. The hooked end of this latch cooperates with the downwardly extending portion 43 of the section 17, (Fig. 5) to lock the sections together whereby the two slide sections move concomitantly and' the slide section 17 with the connected drawer supported by the slide section 18 upon the rollers 24.
The operation is substantially as follows Assuming a drawer is in its normal position in a chamber in the casing and the parts in the positions shown in Fig. 5 with the extensible supporting slide rsections 17, 18 locked together by the latch 41,. As the drawer is moved outward the connected sections with the drawer will ride along the rollers 24 until the drawer is moved out substantially midway when the movement of the rollers will be arrested by the roller carrier 25 engaging with the stop 28. Si-
multaneously with the engagement of the roller carrier with said stop the depending portion 42 of the latch will engage with the end of the roller carrier throwing the latch 41 out of engagement with the portion 43 of thev slide section 17 releasing the slide sections. The drawer at this time is substantially in the position shown in Fig. 7 and it will be noted that the drawer at this time is and has been during its outward movement up to this point supported substantially centrally thereof upon the rollers 24, 24 with the load equalized upon said rollers, the weight and load of the drawer at the forward end causing the roller 26 to enga-ge with the upper flange or runway of the guide 14 and preventing any frictional retardation of the movement of the drawer which would otherwise occur should the .lide section 18 be in slidiri'g and frictional contact with said runway of the guide. The slide section having been released the drawer during the further outward movement will be supported upon the rollers 37 running' upon the flange or runway 20 of the slide section 18, and will be supported upon said rollers to its outermost position, any weight upon the forward end of the ldrawer causingv the roller 38 to engage with and run upon the upper/runway or flange 19 of the slide section 18 thereby -overcoming frictional retardation of the outward movement of the drawer. The outward movement of the drawer is limited by the forward end of the roller carrier 36 engaging with the stop 39 and the stop 40 engaging with the rear end of the roller carrier 36. The drawer will also be supported upon the rollers 37 during theinitial inward movement of the drawer to substantially its midway position 'into the casing when the part 43 riding 'over the hook 41 will lock the two slide sections together and such part 43 engaging with the downwardly extending portionl'26 .of slide section 18 will move said latter section rear-` ward with the movement of the drawer, the drawer being supported upon the rollers 24 during this movement through the slide section' 18 the same as during the initial outward movement of the drawer.
In Figs. 8 and 9 there is shown a modiication of the slide section to which the drawer is removably connected and consists of a member 17 bent longitudinally and .substantially centrally thereof at right angles', as at 44, to constitute a runway to support said slide section upon the rollers 37, the portion 45 below said angle portion being adapted to interlock or interengage with the slide section 18 to engage in back of the roller carrier 36 and thereby prevent lateral displacement of the slide sections. This slide section 17 also has stops coperat-ing with the slide section 18 to limit the to and fro movement of the slide sections relative to each other, and means with which the latch 41 coperates to lock the sections together. The section also has at opposite ends portions 46, 47 bent at right angles and in opposite directions, the angle portion 47 to, engage with the back of the drawer and the portion 46 with the extending end of the front wall of the drawer. To releasably connect the drawer to the slide the drawer has clips 48 on the side wall to vengage over and in notched portions'ofI the slide. Theseclips in the use of a metallic structure may be' stamped `out directly from the material of the drawer, and in the use of a wooden structure are secured to the side of a drawer as shown.
Each of the roller carriers 25 and 36 carries within the channel thereof a pad 40 (Figs. 4 and 5) to extendv longitudinally thereof, and which 'preferably consists of strips of felt carried by said carriers and runways and carrying a roller at the rear' end to engage with the upper runway of the guide; rollers and a carrier therefor in the guide and upon which rollers said slide is supported upon the lower runway of the guide; a slide to which the drawer is con# nected engaging in the first slide and carrying a roller at the rear end to engage with the upper runway of said first slide; and rollers and a carrier therefor in the first slide upon which rollers said second slide is supported upon the lower runway of the first slide, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
:2. 1n a drawer support and guide, the combination with a casing and a drawer to engage therein, of a guide of channel shape in cross section fixed to the casing with the open side opening into the casing; an eX- tensible slide comprising a pair of sections, one section having a part substantially of channel shape in cross section and engaging and supported the guide to have to and fro movement therein, and the other section connected to the and supported in the first slide section to have to and fro movement therein; means carried byone slide section to coperate with the other section to releasably connect the sections, saidmeans being operable to connect the sections when'gthe drawer is moved into the casing from open position to a position substantially midway into the casing and move said sections concomitantly duringthe inward movement of the drawer from substantially its midwa position to its innermost position into t e casing and during its outward movement from its innermost to substantially midway of its outward movement; and means to release said connecting means and thereby the sections as the drawer reaches substantially its midway outward position and maintained released from said midway outward position to its outermost position for the purpose Specified.
8. The combination with a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a channel bar guide closed at one end and the fiangesof the channel bar having offset fianges to extend parallel with the connecting portion drawer engaging of the channel bar flanges, said guide being fixed to the casing with the open side of the channel bar at the side; a channel bar slide to engage in said guide with the opening at the open side of the guide; rollers and `a carrier therefor in the guide to support said slide upon the lower flange of the guide; means to limit the inward and outward movements of said slide; a second slide having'a part engaging in the rst slide and a part to which the drawer is removably connected and participating in theA movement of the first slide'; and rollers and a carrier therefor in the first slide to support the second slide uponthe lower flange ofthe first slide to have to and fro movement independent ofh any movement of the first slide for the purpose specified.

The combination with a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a channel bar guide secured to the casing with the open side of the channel bar at the side, and the flanges of\said channel bar having offset flanges extending parallel with the connecting portion of the channel bar fianges; a channel bar slide engaging in said guide with the open side at the open side of the guide; rollers in the guide u-pon which the' slide is supported upon the lower fiange of the guide; a carrier and separator for said rollers; a stop to limit the movement of the slide into the guide; carried by the guide and slide to limit the outward movement of the rollers and slide; a second slide having a part engaging in the first slide and to which slide the drawer is adapted to be removably connected; rollers in the first slide upon which the second slide is supported upon Vthe lower flange of the first'slide; a carrier and separator for said latter rollers; and a roller carried by the guide-to rotate on a vertical axis to engage the side of the drawer for the purpose specified 5. The combination with a casing and a drawer `operating therein, of a channel Ibar guide secured to t-he casing with the open side of the channel bar -at the side, and the flanges of said channel bar having offset flanges'extending parallel with'the connecting portion of the channel bar flanges; a channel bar slide engaging in said guide with the open side at the open side lof the guide; rollers to support said slide in the guide; a carrier and separator for said rollers.; a roller carried at the rear end ofsaid slide to engage the upper flange of the guide; a stop to limit the inward4 movement of' the slide in the guide; coolperating stops carried by the guide and s ide to l1m1t the outward movement of the rollers and slide; a rollerv carrier by the guide to rotate on a vertical axis and engage the side of the drawer; a second slide havmg a part arranged to engage in the first cooperating stops slide and a part to which the drawer is adapted to be removably connected; rollers in the first slide to support said second slide upon the lower flange of the first slide; a
carrier and separator for said rollers; a roller at the rear end of said slide to engage the upper flange of the first slide; and cooperating stops carried by the slides to limit the movement of the first slide in the second slide, for the purpose specified.
6. The combination of a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a channel bar guide closed at the end secured to the casing with the open side of the channel bar at the side, and the flanges of said channel bar having offset flanges extending parallelwith the connecting portion of the channel bar flanges; a channel bar slide section engaging in said guide closed' at the inner end, said slide having a depending part constituting an extension Aof the connecting portion of the channel bar flanges, and the channel bar flanges of said ,slide section having an offset flange extending parallel with the connecting portion of the channel bar flanges of the guide rollers and a carrier therefor in the guide upon which the slide is supported; coperating stops on the guide and slide to limit the outward movement of the slide and rollers; a second slide to which the drawer is releasably connected engaging in the first slide; rollers and a carrier therefor in the first slide upon which the second slide is supported; and stops on said latter slide coperating with a stop on the first' slide to limit the inward and outward movement of the second slide, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
7 The combination with a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a guide secured to the casing; a 'slide engaging in said guide; rollers and a carrier therefor in the guide upon which the slide is supported; a second slide to which the drawer is connected engagingr in the" first slide; rollers and a carrier therefor in the first slide upon which the second slide is supported; and a cooperating latching means carried by said slides to releasably connect and disconnect the slides at a predeterminedt point in the inward and outwardmovement of the drawer, substantially as. and for the purpose specified.
8'. The combination with a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a guide secured to the casing; a slide engaging in said guide; a roller bearing support for the slide in said guide; a second slide to which the drawer is connected. engaging in the first slide; a roller bearing support for the second slide in the first slide; and a latch carried by the first slide to coperate with a part of the second slide to releasably connect the slides, and said vslides unlatched by the roller bearing support in the guide at a predetermined point in the outward movement of the drawer, substantially as andl for the purpose specified.

The combination with a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a channel bar guide fixed to the casing with the open side of the channel bar at the side; rollers supported upon the lower flange of said bar; a carrier and separator for said rollers; a slide supported upon the rollers in said channel bar; said slide and channel bar hav-l ing cooperating means to prevent lateral displacement of one relative to the other and lateral displacement of the roller carrier and rollers; a roller carried at the inner end of the slide to engage with the upper flange of the channel bar; rollers supported by the slide; a carrie-r and separator for said roller; a second slide to which the drawer is connected slidably interlocked with the first slide and supported upon the rollers in the firstV slide; and means to releasably connect and disconnect the slides during the inward and outward movement of the drawer, substantially. as and for the purpose specified.

The combination with .a casing and a drawer operating therein, of a channel bar guide fixed to the casing with the open side of the vchannel bar at the side; rollers and a `carrier therefor supported upon the lower flange of the bar; an extensible slide comprising interlocking and releasably connected sections, one section supported upon the rollers in the guide and the drawer connected to another section; rollers and a carrier therefor upon which rollers the one section is supported in the other section; cushioning means carried by the roller carriers; and means to limit the sliding movement of the slide sections relative tq each other and the one section relative to the guide` substantially as and for the purpose specified.

The combination with a casing and ya drawer operating therein, of a c-hannel bar guide rfixed tothe casing with the open side of the channel bar at the side; rollersI and a carrier therefor supported upon the lower flange of the bar; an extensible slide comprising interlocking and releasably connected sections, one section supported upon the rollers in the guide and the drawer connected to another section ;,rollers and a carrier therefor upon which rollers the onel section is supported in the other section; means to limit the slidingmovements of the slide sections relativeto each other and the one section relative to the guide; means to lock said slide sections together at a predetermined point in the movement of the drawer to move saidsections concomitantly with the drawer durmg certain portions of -the inward and outward movement thereof,
and disconnect said sections to permit only and adapted to be' disconnected when the .drawer moves outwarda predetermined distance and connected when the drawer moves inward a predetermined distance, one of said slide sections engaging in the guide and the other slide section engaging in the first slide section; rollers and a carrier therefor in the guide and upon which rollers the slide section engaging in the guide is slipported; and rollers and a carrier therefor. in the Efirst. slide section and upon which rollers the second slide section is supported; and said rollers and carriers in the. guide and first slide section having movement in a direction of the drawer, substantially. as and for the purpose specified.
13. A drawer carrier comprising a channel bar guide adapted to be secured in a fixed position with the opening at one side, said guide being closed at the rear end and open at the forward. end and the flanges having offset flanges extending in a direction parallel with the connecting portion of the channel bar flanges; rollers and a carrier therefor engaging in and running upon the lower flange of the guide; a slide of channel section closed at the rear end and open at the forward end, the flanges of said slide having offset flanges extending parallel with the connecting portion of the channel flanges, said slide engaging inand supported upon the rollers in the guide to have to and fro movement, the rearward movement being limited by the closed end of the guide; a roller carried by the slide to engage with the `upper flange of the guide; rollers and a carrier therefor engaging in and running upon the lower flange of the slide; a
second slide engaging in and supported upon rollers in the first slide; a stop on the forward end of the first slide to limit the forward movement of the second slide; a roller carried by the second slide to engage with and run upon the upper flange of the rst slide; and means to releasably connect and disconnect the slides during the inward and outward movements of the drawer, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
14. A drawer carrier comprising a channel bar guide adapted to be secured in a fixed position with the opening at one side, said guide being closed at the rear end and open at the forward end and the flanges having offset flanges extending in a direction parallel with the connecting portion of the channel bar flanges; rollers and a carrier therefor engaging in and running upon the lower flange of the guide; a slide of channel sectlon closed at the rear end and open at the forward end, the flanges of said slide having offset flanges extending parallel with the connecting portion of the channel flanges, Said slide engaging in and supported upon the rollers in the guide to have to and fro movement, the rearward movement being limited by the closed end of the guide; a roller carried by the slide to engage with the upper flange of the guide; rollers and a carrier therefor engaging in and running upon the lower flange of the guide; a second slide engaging in and supported upon rollers in 'the first slide; a stop on the forward end of the first slide to limit the forward movement of the second slide; a roller carried by the second slide to engage with and run upon the upper flange of the first slide; and a pivoted latch carried by one of the slides to cooperate with a part of the other slide to releasably connect the two slides` to support and move the drawer upon the rollers in the guide during a portion of its outward and inward movement, and to disconnect said slides to support and move the drawer upon the rollers in the first slide during aportion of its outward and inward movement, substantially as 'and for the purpose specied,
