To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM MITCHELL, of the city of Toronto, in the .county of York and Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to a toy, comprising a push rod, having at one end a handle by which it is manipulated and at the other end a revoluble wheel by which the toy is made to travel, and a spinning element, whose axis of rotation is at right angles to the axis of rotation of the Wheel, rotatively mounted on the push rod and frictionally engaged by the wheel by which it is caused to revolve during the revolution of the wheel, as hereinafter set forth and particularly pointed out in the claim.

A represents the push rod, which may consist of a wooden bar of dimensions suitable for manipulation by a child; this rod having at one end a handle a and at the other end a stud or axle a projecting at right angles therefrom.
B represents a wheel, revolubly mounted on the stud or axle, by which the toy is made to travel on thesurface over which it is pushed, the axis of the revolution of the wheel being at right angles to the length of the push rod.
0 represents a spinning element, comprising two circular heads 0', c", in parallel planes, connected by a set of spindles 0 all of which may be painted in colors to produce a kaleidoscopic effect during the rotation Specification of Letters Patent.

The circular head 0 is in frictional contact with the perimeter of the wheel B so that during the revolution of the wheel rotative motion will be imparted to the spinning element, the axis of the rotation of which is parallel to the length of the push rod and at right angles to the axis of the revolution of the wheel.
D represents a collar encircling the push rod adjacent to the circular head 0 to prevent the movement of the spinning element lengthwise of the push rod, and thus maintain the spinning element continuously in frictional contact with the wheel B.
In the use of the toy, the revolution of the wheel B, by its frictional contact with the circular head 0, causes the rotation of the spinning element 0 the speed of which is determined by the speed at which the wheel B is moving over the surface on which it is traveling.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim is A toy comprising a handle bar, an axle projecting laterally from one end of the handle bar, a wheel revolubly mounted on the axle, a spinning element consisting of two circular heads rotatively mounted on the handle bar and a set of spindles connecting said heads, one of said heads being in frictional engagement with the wheel and revolved thereby, and means to maintain the frictional contact of said head with the wheel, the handle bar extending axially through and beyond the spinning element for the manipulation of the toy.
