Description
W. MOUAT.
FLUSH VALVE.
APPLICATION FILED [EH16- 1919.
Patented Nov. 4, 1919.
NVENT R A TTOR/VE Y UNITED STATES PATEN T @FFTQE.
WILLIAM MOUA'I, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
FLUSH-VALVE.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM MOUAT, citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Im- .provement in F lush-Valves, and declare the' following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to flush valves, shown in the accompanying drawings and more particularly described in the following specification and claims.
It is well known that the usual rubber ball valve, commonly employed in flushing tanks, has a rather limited period of usefulness due to the fact that it soon loses its shape and as a result will not seat properly, whereupon it must be discarded for another valve.
Valves formed of buoyant material, such as cork, have been used, but are objectionable due to the fact that they are not sufficiently resilient to seat properly.
It is therefore the object of this invention to provide a valve which is not open either to the objections common to the hollow ball valve, or to valves constructed of buoyant material.
A further object of the invention is to providea device which may be applied to valves now in use in order that a proper seating of the valve may be secured.
With the foregoingand. other objects in i view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes may be made in the precise embodiment herein disclosed without departing from the spirit of the same. In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification Figure 1 is a cross-sectional view through a fragment of a flushing tank and the valve.
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view through a modification of the valve.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 4,, 1919.
Application filed February 6, 1919. Serial No. 275,341.
Referring now to the letters of reference placed upon the drawings A, denotes'a flushing tank, B, a valve seat,
thick to insure a proper seating of the valve at all times.
By employing my device in connection with a valve constructed of cork or other buoyant material there is no danger of the valve being water-logged through leakage or other cause, and a proper seating of the valve is assured, due to its yieldable outer surface.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a device of the character described, a valve having an approximately hemispherical shape, and an inclosing elastic cup conforming to the curved surface of the valve and with an inwardly directed flange overlapping the plane surface of the latter, whereby it may be secured to the valve against accidental dislodgment.
2. In a device of the character described, a valve having an approximately hemispherical shape, and an inclosing rubber WILLIAM MOUAT.
