ALCOHOL TORCH.
APPLICATION FILED rem/29 x919.
Patented Nov. 4, 1919.
LSQUAQSE a nucwwoz Morris Jchneiar MORRIS SCHNEIDER, OF NEW YORK, Y.
ALCOHOL-TORCH.
Application filed May 29, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORRIS Scrmnmnn, a citizen of Russia, residing at 168 Henry street, New York, county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Alcohol- Torches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object the provision of a portable torch or blow pipe which may be conveniently carried in the pocket of an operator, and which is adapted to deliver a continuous flame at a right angle to its body, sufficient for soldering and other like purposes.
A further object is to provide a torch which is economical of the fuel consumed.
These and other objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure and in which Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view taken through a torch made in accordance with the invention.
gig. 2 is a side elevational view thereof, an
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 designates a cylindrical casing containing a chamber 12, and having at its lower or base end a recess 13, the arcuate walls 14 of which terminates in a hub-like projection 15, screw threaded to receive a plug 16, having a collar 17 adapted to tightly engage with the inner Wall of the recess, the plug being operated by a projection 18 adapted to be grasped by the fingers and thumb of the operator, closing the filling opening through which the alcohol or other inflammable liquids may be entered into the chamber 12.
At the opposite, upper end of thecasing 12 is a plate or wall 19, extending from which is a screw-threaded nozzle 20, engageable by a cap or cover 21, having, in its reduced upper end, a rotatable plug 22, formed with an eye 23, in which is secured a chain 24, attached at its opposite end to an eye 25, fixed upon the exterior of the casing 10.
Upon one side of the casing 10, secured by the rivets 26, is a spring arm 27 terminating in a ball or knob 28 adapted to engage with the exterior of a pocket in which the casing Specification of Letters Patent.

may be carried, thereby holding the device against loss or displacement.
In order to maintain a tight oint between the cap 21 and upper surface 19 of the easing, a packing ring 29: of suitable flexible fabric may be engaged with the lower portion of the screw so as to form a substantially impervious joint when the cap is screwed upon it.
A metallic tube 30 is arranged centrally in the casing, the same extending from a point nearly at the base of the implement, upward through the screw-threaded nozzle 20, this tube being open at its lower end and provided with an integrally formed, arcuate head 31, in which is formed a single radial opening 82.
Circumjacent to the tube 30 is a coil of textile fabric 33, such as felt or thick cloth, the same being tightly wound upon the eX terior of the tube, and acting in the manner of a wick the same being immersed in the liquid contained within the chamber 12. The interior of the tube 30 is loosely filled with porous textile fabric 34:, the same extending upward into the head 31 and downward below the end of the pipe 30, as canbest be seen in Fig. 1.
In operation, the plug 16 having been removed and the device assembled in the manner indicated, alcohol or other like liquid combustible is entered into the chamber 12,
the plug inserted, the cap removed and a An, alcohol torch comprising a tubular casing having a chamber formed by arcuate walls and a neck at the bottom of said casing, a screw-threaded plug in said neck, a cap engageable at the opposite end of said casing, a rotatable plug formed with an eye on said cap, a chain secured in the eye of said plug and to an eye of said casing, means for forming an impervious joint between said cap and said casing, a spring arm secured on said casing by Which it may be seof said tube, and a porous Wick disposed cured in a pocket, a tube disposed 1ongitu Within said tube, said Wick extending below 10 v dinally in said casing, said tube being open the open end of said tube and into said head at its lower end and havingan 'arcuate incontiguous to thementioned aperture.
- tegral head at the upper end, said tube pro- In testimony whereof I have afiixed my jecting normally lnto said cap, and cont-ainsignature.
ing a single lateral aperture, a strip of textile fabric tightly wound upon the exterior I MORRIS SCHNEIDER.
