A TTORNEYS FREDERICK K. KILIAN',

LUBRICATING SPRING-BOLT.
Application filed March To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Fnnnnnrcn K. KILIAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Lubricating Spring-Bolt, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lubricators or oilers, and has for its object a self-lubricating spring bolt which is particularly simple and economical in construction and which is oil tight and has a comparatively large oil capacity. The invention consists in the novel features and in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention reference is had to the accompanying drawing which is a longitudinal sectional view, partly in elevation, of a springbolt embodying my invention.
This spring bolt comprises a receptacle 1 having a shank 2, and a cup shaped closure 3 rotatably mounted in the receptacle 1, the receptacle and the closure 3 having interlocking means for preventing removal of the closure.
As here shown, the closure 3 is rotatably mounted in the receptacle 1 and abuts against the bottom t thereof and has a head 5 at its outer end, the head overhanging the outer edge of the body 1. The cylindrical walls of the receptacle 1 and the closure 3 are formed with openings 6 and 7 arranged to be brought into and out of alinement upon rotation of the closure, for the purpose of filling oil into bolt.
The interlocking means between the receptacle 1 and closure 3 is provided by forming the closure 3 with an annular groove 8 contiguous to and in the rear of the head 5 and by turning in the outer margin 9 of the receptacle 1 into the groove. Preferably, in order to make the joint between the receptacle 1 and the closure 3 oil tight, a packing ring 10 is provided between these parts, and as here shown the receptacle is formed with an annular groove near its outer end at the base of the inturned margin 8, this groove the spring Copies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.
these openings being I five cents each, by addressing the Patented Nov. 4, 1919.
28, 1919. Serial No. 285,731.
roviding an internal outwardly facing shoulder 11, that is a shoulder facing toward the open face of the cup shaped body 1, and the closure 3 is formed with a peripheral shoulder 12 opposed to the shoulder 11 and underlying the margin 8 of the cup shaped body 1. The packing 10 is interposed between the shoulders 11 and 12. The joint between the receptacle and the closure, and the abutting of the closure 3 against the bottom of the receptacle ,3, makes the spring bolt oil tight. 7
The shank 2 is formed with a lengthwise passage 13 communicating with the interior of the cup shaped body 1 and closure 3, and with laterally extending outlets let which open at their outer ends through a flattened peripheral face 15 eXtending lengthwise of the shank or bolt 3.
This spring bolt consists of but two parts, is particularly economical in construction, is oil tight, and has a comparatively large oil capacity as there are no parts other than the cylindrical wall of the closure 3 within the receptacle.
What I claim is:
A lubricator comprising a receptacle having a hollow shank, and a cup shaped closure rotatably mounted in the receptacle and having a head at its outer end, the cylindrical walls of the receptacle and the closure having transverse openings arranged to be brought into and out of alinement upon rotation of the closure,
the receptacle having an lnternal annular shoulder near its outer end and facing the open end of the receptacle, the closure having a peripheral annular shoulder opposed to the former shoulder and also a peripheral annular groove to the groove, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony signed my name, of Onondaga, and 20th day of February,
FREDERICK K. KILIAN.
whereof, I have hereunto at Syracuse, in the county State of New York, this Commissioner of Patents,
Washington, D. 0.
