Connecting the' squared ends of the legs is a `pressed sheet metal cradle structure 12 having embracing end walls 1.3 to engage the squared ends `11 of the legs, and this cradle structure is secured to the leas by bolts 14:.
This cradle structure is provided with ends 15 continuous with the bottom thereof, which engage the' outer wallsofifthe legs, and this bottom is preferably socketed atithe center, seats for nuts 17 and 18,and apertured for the passage of the lower, vertical positioning bolt, when the latter-:is employed. i
Figs. 7, 8 and 9, illustrate various forms or sections of commercial metal orV sheet metal which mayvbe employed forthe legs of the ith this form of hanger, I also preferably provide a bracin member 2() connecting the legs in substantially the plane of the feet, which may be secured to the legs by rivets 21.
In Fig. 15, I have shown a hanger structure substantially like that shown in Fig. 1. excepting certain modifications or changes in the shape of the legs. The lower ends of the legs below the journal-box supporting portion are reduced in size and shaped as at 11n for the reception of a lower connecting member 12, of the same contour as the legs, which may be secured to said legs by bolts and nuts 22 and 22; filler pieces or blocks 23 being employed to overlie the outer wall of the cradle structure. This forni of hanger is provided with the usual adjustable position' bolts 24 fora journal-box; with a cross piece or bracing member 5 of a type hereinafter described, and with a bracing 'f member 20, connecting the legs in the plane of the feet.
In Fig., 16, I have shown another form of hanger embodying my invention in which a J-shaped support for the journal-box is provided. In this instanee, the J-shaped support and one leg are formed from a single continuous piece While the other leg has a horizontal portion 5" i crossing `above. the 'ournal-box and joined to the continuous leg l) rivets 25. In such structure; I ma pr vide upper and lower positioning` bo ts 10, as indicated by the dotted broken lines, for the ,journal-box, as well .as the horizontally disposed positioning bolts 24:. This hanger is also provided with a bracing member 20 connecting the legs'in ,the plane of the feet.

. `IIL-Fig. 21, I have shown a sectional plan viewV of the legs of a type of hanger such for Ainstance as 4illustrated in Figs. 1 and 15, in which the legs are made from a metal section fsuch as Shown `in Fig. 9. These legs are spaced apart and secured together by a connecting member 5" whichis also duplex in character; that is to say, it is made of upper and lower members each of the saine shape; the complete structure being .shown in elevation in Fig. 23, and in cross section on a larger scale in Fig. 24, such View being on the line 24-24, Fig. 23. Fig. 22 shows theblank rornwhich the sections of this bracing or connecting member are made.
Fig. 25 shows a modified construction in which the walls of the half sections 5c instead of abutting each other on a median line, are lengthened and pass within each other on opposite sides. These forms of bracing or connecting members are provided with ears 6C. which are riveted to the hanger legs.
In Fig. 26, I have shown the construction of the lower en d of the hanger leg shown in Fig. 21, to which a lower connecting crossmember having ends shaped to member or cradle structure V12" is connected; Fig. 27 beinga sectional vievv on the line 27-27, Fig. 2,6.

A shaft hanger comprising a pair of side supporting members shaped to form legs, each vof said legs having a U-shaped lower end, a flattened foot at the upper end and a V-shaped body intermediate said upper and lower ends, said feet being integral with the legs and reinforced by doubling the metal upon itself, a sheet metal brace yspacing and connecting the legs of such structure at the V-shaped portion of the same, said brace having ears, means for securing the ears of said brace to the angular walls of said legs, and tying members overlying said ears, said tying members being secured to the legs by the fastening means securing the ears of the brace.

A shaft hanger comprising a pair of legs V-shaped in cross-section for a portion of their length, reinforced feet integral with said legs, a sheet metal brace for said legs, said brace having integral ears bent to lie against the inner walls of the V-shaped portions of the legs, rivets for securing saidears to the legs, and tie members carried by each leg, said tie members overlying said ears and designed to prevent spreading of the angular walls of said legs. A shaft hanger comprising legs made of sheet metal bent or upset to V-shape, with attened upper ends; said ends being` bentto form feet integral with said legs, a sheet metal member spacin and connecting'the angular portion of te legs, said member having ends shaped to t the V-shaped portions of said legs with ears secured to said legs, in combination with meansV passing through the walls of the legs to secure a journal-box in position.

A shaft hanger comprising a pair of side supporting members composed of sheet metal bent to form legs having a channelshaped lower portion, a V-shaped body and iattened feet, a sheet metal brace having ends fitting the iegs of such structure; said Vbrace having ears at its ends, and means for securing said ears tothe legs of the shaft hanger. i

A shaft hanger comprisin a pair of sheet Vmetal legs, each bein V- ape for a portion of its length, rein orced feetI comprising a plurality of layers offolded'metal, sheet metal braclng means for the legs of such structure, said brace having integral ears shaped to engage the walls of the V- shaped portions 'of the legs, and means for securing said ears to the legs.

A shaft hanger comprising a pair of legs each made of a single section of sheet metall. having an angular portion, each of said iegs having Vits upper end shaped to form a foot integral with said leg; said feet being reinforced, a channel-shaped crossbrace in the same plane as said feet, a sheet metal spacing and connecting member intermediate the upper2 and lower ends of said legs;` said member-having side walls with horizontalflanged portions integral therewith Vand end portions of'a greater width than said side walls, said end portions terminating in ears shaped to engage the angular portions of said legs, and means for securing the ears of :said connecting member to the legs, the horizontal portions of said connecting member being apertured for the passage ofV bblts for positioning a journal-box with respect to said shaft hanger.
19. A shaft hanger comprising a pair of legs each made of a single section of sheet metal having an angular portion and shaped to form a reinforced foot integral With said leg, a sheet metal spacing and connecting member for said legs having side Walls and end portions terminating inears shaped to engage the angular portions of said legs, means for securing the ears of said connecting melnber to the legs, and tie members secured to the angular portions of said legs at the ends of the connecting member and overlying said ears.

A shaft hanger comprising legs made of sheet metal having intermediate portions V-sha e in cross section with flattened upper ends fbrming feet integral with said legs, a sheet metal member spacing and connecting the le s at the V-shaped portions of the same, said s eet metal member having upstanding ears in wed -shape formation to engage the Walls of said V-shaped portions, means for securing said ears to the le and tying means for said ears, in combination with means carried by the legs to position a journal-box.

such structure intermediate the upper and lower ends of the same, said brace having ears bent to engage the V-shaped portions of the legs, means for securing the ears of said brace to the legs, a hollow sheet metal connecting member embracing the lower ends of said legs, and means detachably securing said connecting member thereto, said lower ends of the legs being of U-shape, and the sheet metal connecting member therefor being substantially U-shape in cross section.
22. In a shaft hanger, a pair of legs, each having a portion V-shape in cross section, a bracing member for the legs made of sheet metal pressed into shape and having ears for engagement with the V-shaped portions of said legs, means for securing the ears of said bracing member to the legs, and wedgeshaped tie members at the ends of said bracing member and adjacent the legs, said tie members overlying said ears and held to the legs by the means securing the ears thereto.
