Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes the upper part of the outer sectional casing, the lower part thereof being denoted by the reference character 1*, said portion 1 having the flared base 2 and the upper portion being provided with the handles 3, 3 and the cover 4. lhe lower end of the portion 1 terminates in the rolled edge 5 which carries the inwardly projecting annular horizontal shelf 5 'formed with the longitudinal slot 5 and with the transverse slot 5 and to said shelf 5 the lower section 1 of the casing is secured. The casing section 1 is formed with the rectangular opening 6 which is the same .Width as the slot 5 and the casing portion 1 is formed with the elongated slot 7 Within the casing portion 1 just above the base 2 is the partition 8 formed with the upturned rim 9 which is secured by screws or rivets 10 to the casing, said partition receiving and supporting the spindle 11, the
grooved head 12 of which is disposed below said partition and a washer 13 is disposed upon said spindle above the said partition. Fulcrumed to the spindle 11 upon the washer 13 is the segment 14 having the upturned edge 15 which is formed with the recessed portion 16 and is bent inwardly to form the prong 17 which is adapted for releasable engagement with a pawl 18 fulcrumed upon a finger 19 bent upward from the partition 8 whereby a perforation 20 is formed in said partition. A spring 21 see cured to the partition 8 engages with the said pawl 18 to yieldingly retain the nonpivoted end thereof raised with relation to said partition 8 so that said pawl may engage with the teeth of the inner ratchet 22 when the free end of said pawl is not engaged by the said prong 17.
The said ratchet 22 is formed upon a disklike casting 23 whereon the relatively outer or marginal ratchet 24 is also formed, the teeth of said outer ratchet being disposed reversely to those of the inner ratchet and adapted for engagement with the pawl 25 engaged by spring 26**, pivotally connected by the screw 26 to the edge 15 of the said segment14. An inner rotary drum or casing 27 having a dome shaped top 28 which serves as a sugar shed is secured to, carried and rotated by the said casting 23, the aforesaid spindle 11 extending through the said inner casing and being secured thereto by the nut 29. A lever 30 secured to the said segment 14 to actuate the same extends out through the slot 7 in said casing 1 for man ual engagement by the operator, said lever being connected by the piece 31 with the sliding door or shield 32 which is disposed above the shelf 5 and slides between the casings 1 and 27 and serves as a removable or sliding closure for the opening 6 in said casing 1 to prevent the entrance into said casing 1 of insects in its closed position and to permit the evacuation of sugar in its open position. Movement of the lever 30 from the end of slot 7 adjacent the opening 6 to the slot-end remote from that opening will move the segment 14; about the spindle 11, a return movement of said segment and lever being effected by a return spring 33 which connects said segment and pintle. In the forward movement of the lever 30 the paWl 25 will engage with the outer ratchet 24 and so partially rotate the same together with the inner casing 27, this forward movement of said lever 30 and segment 14 causing the prong 17 to ride toward the pivoted end of the pawl 18 and so permit the spring 21 to raise said pawl for engagement with the inner ratchet which engagement will take place before the lever 30 reaches the extreme forward end of the slot 7 such engagement arresting the forward movement of the disk 23 and permitting movement of said disk and its connections only through an arc of substantially 60 degrees or one-sixth of a complete revolution.
To the periphery of the inner casing 27 I secure a metal strip 34: which is formed with a plurality of outwardly extending wings 35, said wings being connected in pairs by the fins 36, said pairs of fin-connected wings being spaced away from each other thus forming guide channels 36, the Wings 35 are equidistant from each other and the distance between any two wings may be equal to one-twelfth of the circumference of the inner casing 27 and each forward movement of the lever 30, it is reiterated, will move said inner casing one-sixth of a revolution about the spindle 11.
The lower edges of the wings 35, as the casing 27 rotates, ride immediately above the said shelf 5 and the width of the slot 5 as well as the width of the opening 6 is approximately equal to the distance between any two adjacent wings 35. The cube sugar 37 is introduced pell-mell into the casing 1, when top 4 is removed, and it falls upon the shed 28 and from the same upon the fins 36 or between the wings 35 upon the shelf 5*, a guard piece 38 secured to the inner wall of the casing 1 adjacent the shed 28 serving to prevent congestion of the lumps of sugar. At each forward or positive movement of the lever 30 another guide channel 36 regising (3 and one lump of sugar is evacuated. lVhen the said lever 30 is released by the operator it returns to normal position together with the shield 32 and segment 1-1, the casing 27 not sharing in such return movement. The guard 38 secured to the stationary casing 1 will position and agitate the sugar as the casing 27 is rotated.
lVhen granulated sugar is used partitions 39, spaced apart, serve to space a band 40 from the casing 27 to form pockets 41 into which the sugar will find its way as'it is introduced into the casing 1. The shelf 5 will serve as a floor or bottom for the pockets 40 except when any pocket is directly over the opening 5 in said shelf. At this time the sugar will pass through said opening 5 and out through the opening 6 when the shield is in open position.
\Vhat is claimed is 1. In dispensing apparatus, an outer perforated casing, a partition within said casing, a spindle carried by said partition within said casing, a segment fulcrumed to said spindle, a ratchet arranged upon said spindle above said segment, means for yieldingly retaining said segment in a predetermined position with relation to said partition, a hand lever for actuating said segment, a pawl carried by said segment for engagement with the said ratchet, a horizontal shelf carried by said casing and formed with a perforation in alinement with a perforation in said casing, an inner rotary easing carried by said ratchet and associated with said spindle, a sliding shield carried by said lever and disposed between the said outer and inner casings and adapted to move in and out of registration with a perforation in said outer casing, and wings arranged about the periphery of said inner casing and connected in pairs, said wings being disposed immediately above the said shelf and said pairs of wings being spaced away from each other.
2. In dispensing apparatus, an outer perforated casing, a partition within said cas ing, a spindle carried by said partition within said casing, a segment fulcrumed to said spindle, relatively outer and inner integral ratchets arranged upon said spindle above said segment, the teeth of said ratchets being reversely disposed with relation to each other, means for yieldingly retaining said segment in a predetermined position with relation to said partition, a pawl carried by said partition for engagement with said inner ratchet whereby movement of the same in one direction is limited, a pawl carried by said segment for engagement with said outer ratchet, a hand lever for actuating said segment, means carried by said segment for releasable engagement with the first named pawl whereby the same is normally retained in disengaged relation with its ratchet, a horizontal shelf carried by said caslng and formed with a perforation 1n alinement with a perforation in said casing, an inner casing carried by said ratchet and associated with said spindle, a sliding shield carried by said lever and disposed between the said outer and inner casings and adapted to move in and out of registration with a perforation in said outer casing, and wings arranged about the periphery of said inner casing and connected in pairs, said wings being disposed immediately above said shelf and said pairs of wings being equidistant from each other.

In dispensing apparatus, an outer perforated casing formed with an elongated peripheral slot, a partition within said casing, a spindle carried by said partition within said casing, a segment fulcrumed to said spindle, relatively outer and inner in tegral ratchets arranged upon said spindle above said segment, the teeth of said ratchets being reversely disposed with relation to each other, means for yieldingly retaining said segment in a. predetermined position with relation to said partition, a springpressed pawl carried by said partition for yielding engagement with said inner ratchet whereby movement of the same in one direction is limited, a prong integral with said segment and releasably engaging said pawl for normally retaining .the same in disengaged relatio-nwith said inner ratchet,
a pawl carried by said segment for engagementwith said outer ratchet, a hand lever extending through the slot in said outer casing for actuating said segment, a horizontal perforated and longitudinally slotted shelf carried by said casing, said perforation being in alinement with the perforation in said outer casing, an inner casing carried by said ratchet and associated with said spindle, a sliding shield arranged above said shelf between said inner and outer casings and adapted to move ing, a spindle carried by said partition within said casing, a segment fulcrumed to said spmdle, a ratchet arranged upon said splndle above said segment, means for yieldingly retaining said segment in a predetermined position with relation to said partition, a hand lever for actuating said segment, a pawl carried by said segment for engagement with the said ratchet, a horizontal shelf carried by said casing and formed with a perforation in alinement with the perforation in said casing, an inner rotary casing carried by said ratchet and associated with said spindle, a sliding shield carried by said lever and disposed between the said outer and inner casings and adapted to move in and out of registration with the perforation in the said outer casing, and pockets arranged about the outer periphery of said inner casing immediately above said shelf, said pockets being adapted to register consecutively with the perforation in said shelf as said hand lever is manipulated.
