To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALoNzo JACOBS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma city, in the county of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vending- Machines, of which the following is a speci fication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

The invention pertains to vending machines, and is an improvement upon a machine shown in an application for patent filed by me onthe 27 day of March, 1914, Serial Number 827,569. The machine shown in said application comprises a suitable base whose upper portion is formed into a tray compartment, this compartment containing a circular chambered delivery tray similar to the well known dropping-plate employed in seed-planting machinery. To impart to this delivery tray a step-by-step movement in advance direction, an actuating plate lies under it in the tray compartment and is arranged for rotative movement by the customer sufficient to advance the tray one step when engaged with the latter by a coin. he actuating plate is provided with an opening adapted to register with successive ones of chambers and allow immediate emptying of said chambers into a delivery port as they are brought to delivery position, this opening registering with the delivery port with said actuating plate at the delivery end of its throw. With the parts thus arranged, the customer may, by inserting a single coin and giving the actuating plate partial strokes, occasionally steal more 4 goods then he pays for.

An object, therefore, is to overcome this objection in the machine.

Another object is to provide improved means for holding the parts of the machine in assembla e.

Other ob ects and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the ensuing description. I

The accompanying drawings show one embodiment of the invention in practical form.

Figure 1 is an elevation view of the machine. Fi 2 is a plan view, with an upper portion 0 the machine removed and portions of the base broken away .to expose inner parts. Referring to the several figures, in all of which like characters of reference designate like parts, the machine herein shown includes a hollow base 10 having its upper portion formed into a compartment 11 and containing the circular deli-very tray 12.

The circular actuating plate 13, shown separately in Fig. 4, lies on the bottom of the compartment 11 under the delivery tray 12 and is adapted to be operatively engaged with the latter by a coin, the manner, of effecting the operative engagement not being a part of the present invention and not being shown. The actuating plate 13 is manually operated by an integral handle 14 which projects out through a slot 15 in the wall of the tray compartment 11, and is properly limited in its movements by the end of said slot, this actuating plate being in its initial position wherever shown in the drawings. In the present invention, th opening 16 ofthe actuating plate 13 is located to register with the delivery port 17 with said plate in initial position instead of advanced position. With the actuating plate arranged in this way, it must be allowed to return from the advance end of its throw to initial position before the goods contained in the registering chamber of the delivery tray are released to the customer, thereby rendering it impossible to release goods by partial throw of said plate.

To yieldably hold the actuating plate 13 in its initial position, it has a lug 18 dea pending through an arcuate slot 19 in the bottom 20 of the tray compartment 11, and this lug is engaged by a spring 21,which rests against the central depending protuberance 22 of said bottom and has its end 23 anchored in the wall 24 of a certain coin- ,track.

In forming a pivot for the delivery tray 12, a stud 25 is screwed down into the bottom 20 of the tray compartment 11, and through the protuberance 22, this stud having a shoulder 26 which seats against said bottom. The upper end of this stud 25 is formed into an enlarged head 27, and the side surfaces of this head are vertically disposed in order to insure that the goods in the container 28 shall feed down properly and fill the chambers of the delivery tray 12.

In arranging improved means for holding the machine in assemblage, the annular upward extension 30 whose inner lip 31 holds the delivery tray 12 down in the tray compartment 11 is provided with depending rod extensions 32 which are permanently screwed into protuberances 33 on its outer surface, and said rod extensions pass removably down through protuberated portions 34 cast on the sides of the base 10. The lower ends of these rod extensions 32 are provided with wing nuts 35 which are screwedup against the base 10 to hold the annular extension down in place.

To hold the container 28 in place, its lower inner surface terminates in a shoul-. der 37, and this shoulder is releasably engaged by the upper hooked ends 38 of a series of spring fingers 39 whose lower ends are riveted to the inner surface of the annular extension 30. It will be noted that these fingers 39 are not accessible except by removing the wing nuts 35 in the lower portion of the base 10 and lifting the extension ofl? and the nuts cannot be reached without taking out the bottom 40 of said base. The bottom 40 of the base 10 is provided with a suitable lock 41 and a key 42.

To fill the container 28, the machine is inverted and the base portion removed by taking ofi' the nuts 35, the delivery tray-12 remaining with the base 10, and the extension 30 with the container 36. After filling'the container 28 in its inverted position, the base 10 is placed back onto it, and the nuts 35 screwed in place on the rod extensions 32. The bottom 40 may then be put in place, and locked by the lock 41.

Having thus described the invention I claim 1. In a vending machine, a supporting base having a delivery port, a chambered delivery tray mounted to revolve on the base and have its chambers register successively with said delivery port, an actuating-plate mounted on the base under the delivery tray and adapted to be given limited movement to advance the tray, said plate having an openingregistering with said delivery port when in initial position.

2. In a vending machine, asupporting base having a circular compartment and a naeaeaa having depending rod extensions extending removably down through the base, and nuts engaging the lower ends of said rod exten- 810115.

3. In a vending machine, a supporting base having a circular compartment and a port leading from said compartment, a tray mounted to revolve in the compartment and having a series of chambers adapted to register successively with said port, an annular member mounted on the base over the compartment to hold the delivery tray down, a container mounted on the annular member and having locking means accessible only by reaching up through said member, said annular member having depending rod extensions passing down removably through the base, and nuts engaging the lower ends of said extensions.

4. In a vending machine, a supporting base having a compartment and a port lead ing from said compartment, a tray mounted revolubly in said compartment and having chambers adapted to register successively with said port, an annular member resting on the base over said compartment to retain the delivery tray in place, a con tainer resting on the annular member and locked thereto by means accessible only by reaching upward through said annular member, said annular member having depending rod extensions passing down through the base, nuts on the lower ends of said rod extensions, and means for preventing access to said nuts.

5. In a vending machine, a base having a compartment and a delivery tray mounted to revolve in said compartment, a stud on which the tray pivots, said stud having a head, the side surfaces of said head being vertically disposed, whereby the tray Will more certainly fill when being revolved.
