The combination with a valve, of a spring acting thereon with tendency to move it in one direction and to hold it in` is great enough to hold the valve in the second position, when it has been brought tc that position by the operation of said tent circuit breaker in the circuit of said magnet operated synchronously with said actuator.

The combination with a valve of an intermittently operative actuator for periodically moving the valve in one direction, a spring arranged to exert force tending to move the valve in the opposite direction, an electromagnet, the armature for which is connected to the valve, arranged to exert force on said armature in op aosition to said spring,.its power being su cient to overcome the force of the spring and hold the armature when the valve is in the position wherein it is brought by said actuator, and insufficient to overcome the force of the spring when the valve and armature are in the position wherein they are placed by the free action of the spring, and an intermittent circuit breaker in the circuit of said magnet operated synchronously with said actuator, said circuit breaker including a movable contact adjustable to vary the prol portion of the cycle during which said cirtheivalve -by saidaetuatir.l i v y10.
