aim-curing;
Application filed July a. 1916.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern Be it known. that 1, JAMES P. Srzeonou a citizen of the United States residing at Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in l l ater-Tube Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates 'to'water tube boilers.
outlet. The invention is especially adapted for boilers which are in service and have a steam outlet connection from the middle drum, as the steam may be led from the rear drum without altering the steam connections leading from the boiler.
The invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section showing sullicient of the parts of a boiler to explain the invention; Fig. 2 a longitudinal section through the rear steam and water drum; Fig. 3 a similar view through the middle steam and water drum;
and Fig. 41 a view illustrating a slight modification. Similar reference numerals indicate similar parts in the several views. I
Referring to the drawings the numerals 1, 2 and 3 designate the front middle and rear transverse steam and water drums of a Stirling boiler. These drums are con-- nected by banks of tubes 4, 5 and 6 to a mud drum. Baliiing shown at '2', 8 and is arranged to direct the gases, rising frdin the furnace 10, in serial, passes over -the.
banks to the otltake 11. The water spaces of the drums 1 and 2 are connected by circulators 12. In the modification shown in Fig.4 eirculators 13 also connect the water spaces of the drums 2 and 3. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the circulators 13- are omitted. The steam spaces of the drums 1 and 2 are connected by circulators 141, and

the steam spaces of drums 2 and 3 are connected by circulatorslS.
In the steam space of the rear drum, and near the ends of the drum, are placed dry pipes 16 to which are connected circulating nipples 17 which lead to a collecting pipe 18 in the steam space oi the middle steam and water drum The steam is discharged through the outlet connection 19, which is located in the usual position on the middle steam and water drum and leads from the collecting pipe 18 extending longitudinally through the drum 2, the pipe 18 being closed against entrance of steam direct from the drum :2. The collecting pipe 18 is provided with a drain pipe 20 through which any water pocketed in the collecting pipe may bev discharged when the boiler is started up.
In the described arrangement the steam from the front steam and water drum. 1 is taken through the cireulators 14: to the mid dle steam and water drum 2 and from the latter istaken through the circulators 15 to the rear steam and water drum. From the drum 3 the steam passes through the circulating nipples to the collecting pipe 18 from which it is discharged throughithe outlet connection.
The feed water is delivered to the rear steam and water drum through a pipe 21 which discharges into a trough What I claim and. desire to secure by Letters Patent of the. United States is 1*- 1. A water tube boiler'having three transverse steam and water drums connected by banks of tubes to a transverse water chaniber, steam and water circulators connecting the steam and water drums, a dry pipe near' each end of one of the steam and water drums. a steam collecting plpe in one-of the other steam and water drums, nipples.
connecting the said dry pipes with the ends Car of the collecting pipe, and a steam outlet connection from said collecting pipe.
3. A water tube boiler having three transverse steam and Water drums connected by banks of tubes to a transverse Water chamber, steam and water circuletors connecting the steam and Water drums, the steam cirdrum, nipples connecting said dry pipes with the ends of said collecting pipe, and esteem outlet connection for said collecting pipe.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two sub scribing Witnesses.
JAMES P; SNEDDON.
