WALTER TRIPP AND HENRY A. TRIPP, OF WILLIAMSON, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOOP-LOCK CUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,835, dated October 1, 1872.
vented a newand Improved Hoop-Lock Outter, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a face view of our improved hoop- Flg. 2 is a central horizontal secand 4 are detail side views of the look as out.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Our invention is an improvement on the hoop-lock cutter for which Letters Patent were granted to Theodore Oonklin April 5, 1870, No; 101,436, and I hereby disclaim the construction therein shown and described. The improvement relates mainly to the arrangement or mode of pivoting the two levers which carry the cutters, not only as respects their mutual functional relations, but their connection with the bed-plate and other parts of the device.
A in the drawing represents the bed-plate To it is pivoted at a a lever, B, carrying a V-cutter, G, at one and a handle, b, at the other end. D is another lever pivoted at d to the plate A, and provided with a slotted-arm, 6, through the slot of which a pin, f, projects from the lever B. The free endof the lever D carries a knife, E. When the leverB is swung in the direction of the arrow, it carries the two knives toward a small elevatedplatform, g, which is rigidly connected with the plate A, and on which the hoop to be cut is supported. The upright blade h of the knife E first enters the hoop and cuts the transverse shoulder 2', Figs. 3 and 4. The horizontal blade of the same knife meanwhile cuts the bevel j on the under side, the knife E being set inclined and swinging on an inclined pivot, 01, in order to produce this bevel. TheV-knife O cuts the curved inner and outerbevels l on until it reaches the shoulder v. The hoop while being cut rests against a gage or back,'n, which can be set in or out by means of screws passing through oblique. slots in the platform 9 to accommodate wider or narrower hoops. The knives are also slotted for the same purpose, and to enable the wear to be taken up.
.Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The lever B pivoted to the center of the bed-plate A, and carrying the cutter G, the elbow-lever D, pivoted to the periphery of the bed-plate and earrying'the cutter E, in combination with the platform 9 and adjustable gage n, all constructed, arranged, and ope-- rating as described.
