Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. TEMPLE- ToN, a c itize'nof the United States, Vresiding at Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, haveV invented ane-W .and useful Vending-jMachine, (Case `A,) yof which the'olloWing is a specilication.
This invention relates to vending machines, one of lits objects being to provide ajsimple and compact machine `formed of butfevv parts and which utilizes a delivering member of novel construction mounted Ytol Work about a substantially Vhorizontal delivery 'openingsof themaehine and, When in another position, constituting an actuating element for shiftingvth'e delivering member `from one position toanother.
A further object Yis to provide simple and eiiicient check controlledmeans for releasingthe deliverymember to permit actuation thereof, said means automatically locking Athe delivery member immediately lprior to the delivery ofanarticle Ifrom one side of the machine, thereby 'to prevent 'delivery of an article from the other side'of theam'achin'e unless a cheek of'pro'per value isinserted.

Likewise the coin receiving portion 14 of the lever is held normally elevated close to and under one of the coin receiving pockets 32.
Under normal conditions the Ydelivery mechanism is so located'that the plate 19 is i to support articles in position where they cannot' escape through the adjacent opening 26, vwhile the articles in the other magazine restvup'on-one of the trays 23, the plate 25 connected to said .tray closing the opening 26 into which the' article supporting tray projects. The parts are held in this'position by the finger 15 .onlever13 projecting into' Ymounted .under oneof the magazines, thus Y one of the recesses 21. By now pushing laterally upon the plate 25 on the end of the projecting push device vor tray23, the delivery member can beY swung laterally and the advancing edge of the plate '19' will thrust against the article resting on the cutwardly moving tray'23. Thus one of the articles'in one of the magazines will be carried outwardly with the tray through the opening 26 while the opposed tray which is being thrust inwardly will moveto position y' under the other magazine so as to receive the lowermostarticle therein.. The plate 19 moves from under one magazine to position under the other magazine as will be obvious. Justvprior to the arrival of the delivery mechanism atv the point wherel the. article` will be freeto 'be withdrawn from the machine, the finger'l moves into-'one ofthe recesses 21 thusto prevent return Vmovement of the delivery mechanism to itsinitialposition. Consequently becomes impossible, by manipulating the apparatus, to get more than one article by depositing one coin or n check. When vthe delivery mechanism begins to; move Yafter being unlocked, the meinber 31 also shifts so as tobringfanother coin pocket 32 into position in, line'with theJ base container winos 11. The outer wall 35 of eachy of the poc ets 32 extends downwardly to Y support a check on edge upon ,theportion of lever 13 and assoon asrmember 31 moves out of its extreme position the Vcheck lio Y will lose this support and fall olf ofthe lever into the space back of the closure 6.
Itwill be seen that a machine such as iso herein described is very simple, durable and compact and is advantageous because of the iew parts necessary in its construction. Vhile .it is useful for dispensing articles of different linds, it has been found especially advantageous a machine for dispensing boxes of matches.
Attention is called to the fact that the weight 22 serves to facilitate the operation of the mechanism, this Weight shifting the delivery mechanism to either limit of its movement as soon as said mechanism has passed its dead center.
What is claimed is l. A vending machine including a magazine having opposed outlet openings, a delivery member mounted to rock below the magazine and between said openings, said member constituting a support for articles within the magazine, and having oppositely extending trays movable within the respective openings, a closure carried by each tray, and means for automatically locking the delivery member against return movement during its rocking movement in either direction.
2. A vending machine including a magazine having opposed outlet openings, a member movaibly mounted under the magazine and between the openings, means for holding said member normally at either of its two limits of movement, trays extending from opposed portions of said memiber and into opposed openings, each of said trays constituting a push device for shifting the member from one limit of movement to the other, means carried by each tray for closing the opening in which the tray is mounted when said tray is at one limit of its movement and for supporting a delivered article when the tray is at the other limitof its movement, and means for automatically locking the member and trays against return movement while being moved toward either limit of their movement.
3. A vendingmachine including a magazine having opposed outlet openings, a member movably mounted under the magazine and between the openings, means for holding said member normally at either of its two limits of movement, trays extending from opposed portions of said member and into opposed openings, each of said trays constituting a push device for shifting the member from one limit of movement to the other and means carried by each tray for closing and opening in which the tray is mounted when said tray is at one limit of its movement and for supporting a delivered article when the tray is at the other limit of its movement.
A vending machine including a magazine having o-pposed outlet openings, push devices mounted to rock between and move within the respective openings and movable alternately to close their respective openings, each of said push devices constituting a delivery tray, means for locking the push devices when approaching either limit of their movement, and means for automatically completing the movement of said devices ater an initial impulse in either direction, and subsequent to the unlocking of the devices.
