PUMP.
I Application filed October 31,
Be it known that I, FELIX H. CnAco, a citizen-of the United States, residing at Sappington, in the county of Gallatin and State of Montana, have invented a new an useful Pump, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of this invention is a pump of the rotary type, and the objects of the invention are, first, to provide a rotary piston for the pump, second, to provide means for properly positioning the piston at the different stages of its rotation, third, to provide a rotor for a pump, fourth, to provide a simple, durable and eflicient pump.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention'resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter eit being understood the precise embodiment of that changes in disclosed, can be made the invention herein within the scope'of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawingwherein:
Figure 1 is a the pump with the near side of removed;
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section; Fig. 3 is a detail view of the rotor. Referring to the drawing by numerals of reference:
view in side elevation of the casing The casing is the usual drum. shaped casing 1, divided longitudinally and provided with radially disposed apertured lugs 2 adapted to receive bolts or the like by which the casing is clamped together.
Apertured feet 3 depend from the caslng for the purpose of supporting the same an ermit the pump to'be fastened to a platform,'bed-plate or the like. An intake pipe 4 and an outlet pipe 5 are provided and are preferably integral with the. casing. hese pipes may be threaded as shown, to permit the pump to suitably connect in the pipe line.
Opposed cylindrical extensions 6 are formed eccentrically of the casing 1 an provide journal boxes for supporting the Formed centrally of Specification of Letters Patent.

the head of one of the extensions 6 is an outwardly projecting boss 7 which is apertured or bored as shown to form a stuiling box or packing space 8 Each half of the casing 1 is formed with an annular recess which join when the 'sec tions are clamped together to form an annular groove 9. A cam track 10 is clamped within the groove 9 for a purpose hereinafter set forth, the surface of the cam track being flush with the inner surface of the casing except at that portion, 10, at the upper part of the casing, which portion projects inwardly.
lVithin the extensions 6 turn the journals or trunnions 11 of the rotor. The rotor consists of the cylinder 12 in which is formed the central annular groove 13, and through which is cut the diametrically disposed longitudinal slot 1- The slot 1.1 is formed with central opposed offsets 15 as shown. ne journal or trunnion of the rotor may be ap ertured, as indicated at 16, for the reception of the end of a drive shaft.
, The piston 17 is mounted in the slot 14: of the rotor with a close sliding fit, and has a longitudinal rib 18 centrally disposed on and adapted to enter the offsets 15. As will be readily understood, contact of the edges of the piston 17 with the end walls of the slot 11 will serve to guide the piston in its reciprocationthrough the slot and prevent sidewise tilting thereof, such positioning and movement of the piston being rendered doubly certain by the ribs 18 held in the offsets 15.
Each end of the piston 17 has formed therein a central slot which extends trans.
which is mounted in any suitable manner a roller 19. The roll- 18 so as to reers 19 engage the cam track duce friction of the parts.
The operation of the device is as follows;
The pump is connected in a suitable pipe line leading from a suitable source of liquid supply to the pump through its intake 4, and from the pump through its outlet 5 to a suitable liquid receiver. A shaft, geared in any suitable manner to a source of power, is connected to the rotor and rotary motion imparted.
As the rotor travels from the position shown in Fig. 1 in the direction of the arrow, liquid is drawn, by the suction of the piston,
- cam face 10' while liquid ahead of by the forward movethrough the intake, the piston is forced ment of the piston, through the outlet 5.
When the piston first starts from the p0 sition shown in Fig. l, the upper "edge of the piston is within the slot of the rotor and ceases to he in contact with the casing until the loweredge of the piston has traveled sufficiently to bring its roller 19 in contact with the cam 1.0 of the cam track 10. The gradually forces the piston 17 to the position shown in Fig. 1.
As will he readily understood, while the upper edge oi. the piston is within the slotof the rotor, water is free to flow to the easing without any back pressure from the upper portion. It will also be seen that the cam face is so located'as to gradually release pressure on the outgoing water and avoid the. shock which would be caused by the trapped water were the piston brought to its vertical position with the upper edge in contact with the casing.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as Patent, 1s:
