VENTILATED BUILDING STRUCTURE.

Be it' known that lI, HALVER R. STRAIGHT, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Adel, in the county of 4Dallas and State of Iowa, have invented a 'certain new and useful Ventilated Building Structure, of which the following is a specification.
My improvement relates to that class of ventilated building structures which is preferably made of hollow elaytile, for the purpose of forming corn cribs orthe like.
In a former application I have illustrated and described such a structure as applied to a circular hollow tile corn crib, which ap plication maybe identified as Serial Number 735,856, filed December 9, 1912, and now issued as Patent No, 1,151,219 under date of September 21, 1915.
In many instances it is desirable to have these ventilated building structures made in rectangular form instead of round, and obviously the method employed in my said round structure cannot be used to advantage in afrectangular structure. i
The object of my present invention is to devise a means'whereby hollow 'tile may be employed in the erection of a rectangular structure for corn cribs or similar purposes, in whichsome ofthe solid upright columns thereof may be formed ofthe same hollow tile `that are employed in the body portion of the walll with the openings thereof arranged to run verticallyfor the reception of 'ln'aciiig rods, the vertical spaces thereof around the rods being designed to receive concrete for the purpose of sealing the rods and bracing the whole structure to form a rigid upright `column to which binding wires or rods may be applied for holding the walls between the rigid upright'columns.
A further object is to provide improved means for resisting the outward thrust upon the straight portions of the wall between the rigid lupright columns, which means are of simple and inexpensive construction that may be readily and quickly laid in place by ordinary workmen.
vMy invention 'consists in the construction, arrangement and combination ofthe various parts of the device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig.` 1 shows a similar view taken at right angles to that on which Fig. 3 is taken, and Fig. 5 shows a detail, perspective view of one of the hollow tile building blocks from which `my improved structure is built. Referring to the accompanying drawings, the building blocks employed in my improved structure are of the kind illustrated in Fig. 5, and may be made in an ordinary tile making machine by' being forced through a suitable die. In' cross-section it is preferably square and ycomprises a bodyV portion 10 havinga vertical central web 11 and a horizontal central web 12. The ends of therblock, however, are beveled or inclined both in theV same directionV so that when the block is laid flat the ends thereof incline upwardly and laterally both'in the same direction4 atan angle of about twenty degrees from the vertical. In erecting a `building according to my improvement and with hollow tile blocks of the character described, I"`first provide *a suitable base 13 which may jbe made of concrete. At the corners 'of thebase I 'place vertically arranged reinforcing rods ,"15and` at suitable intervals throughout the side walls I placca number of vertically arranged reinforcing rods 16. I then place a `layer ofy the hollow tile blocks on the base with the ends thereof exactly yverti` cal so that the tops and `bottoms thereof incline downwardly and outwardly, as shown at the upper right side of Fig, 2.
At the centerof the sidewall I place'the hollow tile blocks in position `with the openings extending vertically and slipv them down over the rods 16. On the bottom` layer for instance, I provide a single block with the openings verticaland with the rods 1611xtended through said openings, then on the second layer I provide two of these blocks arranged with the .openings vvertical and with the rods 16 running through the adjacent vertical openings of the two blocks, as clearly `illustrated at the centralftop portion of Fig. 2. Between each horizontal row of blocks thus laid I provide oneor more reinforcing rods.
