citizen of the United States, residing at Burlington in the county of Ghittenden and State of Vbrmont, have invented new and useful Improvements in Figure Toys, of which the following is a specification. This invention comprehends generally improvements in that class of inventions known as games and toys, and more particularly has reference to improved figure toys;

This invention has for its principal aim and object to provide a device of the above mentioned character, the body of which is designed in the form of a horse or other animal having pivoted legs, improved means acting in conjunction with the body for operably supporting the body so that a vibratory or shaking movement may be imparted to the body for the assuring of the moving of the jointed legs to and from the supporting base, and thus simulating the movement of a bucking bronco.

More particularly the present invention consists in the provision of improvedmeans in the form of a hitching-post to which the head of the body is connected in such a manner as to assure of the raising of the rear jointed legs to a position higher than the forward legs, upon the provision of the supporting and operatin means for the body.

Among the other alms and objects of this invention may be recited the provision of a device of the character described with a view to compactness, and in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple and the cost of production low and the efliciency high.

Other improvements and novel details in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the apparatus will be brought out more in detail in the description to follow, which for a clear understanding of the} invention should be considered in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, and wherein is dis closed for the purpose of illustration a convenient and satisfactory embodiment of the invention. tion that minor changes in the construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the principle of operation of the various parts.

Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.

Referring now more particularly, to the accompanying drawings there is provided a supporting base or platform 1 on the upper surface and transversely near one edge of which is secured a strip 2 in which is anchored the main supporting and operating means generally indicated by the numeral 3 for the jointed figure, indicated in its entirety by the numeral 4.

Inthe present instance thisimproved supporting and operating means is formed from a single piece of relative stiff wire or light rod metal and consists of'a standard 5, the lower end of which is anchored as at 6 in the upper surface of the strip 2 and medially of the ends thereof, while the upper portion of the wire is bent forwardly at right angles to provide a substantially resilient supporting arm 7, the outer end of which terminates in a loop 8 in which is connected one end of a flexible element, such as a cord 9, the opposite end of which is connected as at 10 to the figure.

As intimated, the figure 4 is desirably shaped to resemble a horse, and consists of a body 11, at the forward end of which is formed a head 12, while pivotally connected to the outer sides and near the respective ends of the body by means of suitable fasteners 13 are the inner sections 14:, of jointed legs, indicated generally by the numeral 15. The outer sections 16 of the legs terminate in hoofs 17, while the upper ends are reduced and pivotally accommodated between the bifurcated lower ends of the sections 14 by means of suitable pintles 18. In this connection it is to be observed that the lower end of the flexible element or cord 9 is connected to the upper surface of the body 11 approximately medially thereof, while the length of the cord and the height of the figure is approximately equivalent to the height of the supporting post, so that the hoofs 17 on the lower section 16 of the legs are lightly rested on the base 1, as indicated and for a purpose that will presently appear.

and operating means 3 and the figure 4: is an upright post 19 which represents a hitching-post, while connected between the post and the head 12 near the mouth is a relaatively taut cable 20 which acts as a hitching-strap'and the relation of this post and strap 20 with respect to the head is such that when a vibratory or shaking movement is imparted to the figure 4, upon the touching and repeatedly depressing of the arms 7, the head on the body is held by the hitching strap and post in such a manner as to allow only a limited amount of movement of the forward leg 15, while on the other hand the rear legs are permitted a greater movement to closely resemble a bucking bronco. Of course, during the actuation of the arm the jointed legs will strike the base to produce a tapping sound, and owing to the employment of jointed legs, considerable movement of the legs is obtained to closely imitate the actions of a bucking bronco.

It is believed in view of the foregoing description that a further detailed descrip tion of the operation of the invention is on tirely unnecessary. Likewise it is believed that the advantages of the invention will be readily apparent.

It will be understood that the above de scription and accompanying drawings comprehend only the general and preferred embodiment of this invention and that various minor changes in detail of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims and without sacrificing any of the advantages; of this invention, 7 j" i VVl1at is claimed is g 1. A device of the character described consisting of asupporting base, a combined support and actuator formed from a single piece of wire bent to provide a standard designed to be anchored in the base, a resilient arm, a figure suspended from the outer end ofthe -ill'm and having jointed for- Ward and rear legs normally resting lightly on the upper surface of the base, a hitching post rising from the base andin connection with the figure for allowing onlyv slight movement of the forward legs of the figure and permitting of a greater movement of the rearlegs upon the. tapping or successive depressing of the resilient arm;
