Description

F. MILLER. Iqm provement in Fence- Posts,
P: tds .24,1872. N0.`,3,624. acne ep g UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
FRANK MILLER, OE wARsAw, NEw YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN FENCE-POSTS.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK MILLER, of Warsaw, in the county of Wyoming and State of New York, have invented a new and.'` Improved Fence-Post, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a side view, partly in section, of a fencepanel supported at each end and middle by one of my posts. Fig. 2 is a side view, partly in section, of said post.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
This invention relates to the use of gas-pipe for the lower part and wood for the upper part of a fence-post, with the object of economizing wood and avoiding its rapid decay in the ground, as hereinafter fully described.
In the drawing, the letter A, represents a short section of metallic pipe, (preferably gaspipe,) which is driven into the ground to form the butt and support of the wooden rail-support E. This piece E is bored out at the lower end so as to surround the pipe-butt A and be sustained vertically and laterally by it. The fence-panels C are secured to the pieces E by means of eyes a a or other suitable devices. This post A E is cheap, durable, and easily applied.-
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- A fence-post formed of butt tube A and end tubular wooden rail-support E, the latter surrounding the upper end of the former, as and for the purpose described.
