' M52067? 0? g @Q/ gfig w UNITED STATES PATENT OE IcE.
I GEORGE F. WRIGHT AND CALEB K. SAWYER, OF CLINTON, MASS.
IMPROVEMENT IN LOOMS FOR WEAVING WIRE-CLOTH.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,584, dated September 24, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE F. WRIGHT and CALEB K. SAWYER, of Clinton, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Looms; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates particularly to that class of looms used to weave wirecloth, but we do not wish to be understood as confining ourselves exclusively to that class of looms, as our improvements may perhaps, with equal advantage, be applied to looms for other purposes.
The nature of our invention consists in the combination of the back-reed, whip-roll, and pressure-roll, all hung upon two levers pivoted on the sides of the loom.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which-- Figure 1 represents a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a plan view.
J J represent two levers pivoted one upon each side of the loom, the lower ends bearing against a hook or projection, 43, upon another lever, K, also pivoted one upon each side of the loom, and the front ends of said leversK K are pressed down by a spring, 70 The upper ends of the levers J J have in their center bearings for the whip-roll L, and in front of said roll, attached to the levers, is a reed, M. In rear of the whip-roll L is placed a pressure roll, N, covered with rubber or other suitable material. This roll is placed in movable journal-boxes min the levers J, and pressed against the whip-roll by set-screws a bearing against theboxes m. The warp-wires pass up between the rolls L N, over the former, and through the reed M. The pressure-roll N is intended to roll with and against the whip-roll, being pressed against it firmly, to prevent the warpwires from flying back any further when they break in the operation of weaving, and the back-reed M serves to show at once which thread is broken, and keeps every wire in a straight line to the harnesses.
Having thus fully described our invention,
what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the back-reed M, whiproll L, and pressure-roll N, all hung upon two levers pivoted on the sides of the loom, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we aflix our signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEO. F. WEIGHT. 0. K. SAWYER.
