When pressure is created. within the receptacle 10' by the operation of the pump 12,the fluid fuel traverses thel pipe 20, the tip 34, and mixes, within the'body31 olf the burnenwith air admitted through the openings 37, the inner cap 40 securing@4 thoioug'hadmixture ef' gas `and air, before the/mixture entersvthe outer, cap u `44 by way ofthe opening 43', the mixture burning at the perforations 45 of the outer cap 44, the bowl 36 serving to direct the flame upwardly. At any time, the height of the flame may be decreased b retracting the valve 19, whereupon air wil flow from the receptacle 10 by wayof the vent 18, the tube 17 and the neck 15. When the vent 18 is closed by the valve 19, a stroke or two of the plunger of the pump 12 will restore ',orincrease the pressure within the receptacle 10, and thus increase the flow of fuel g through the pipe 20, raising the iame and increasing the heat.
When the-device is rst put into operation, it Vmay be found desirable to place a small quantity of fluid fuel,'such as wood alcohol or distillato, in the panv 28 and ignite the priming charge thus formed, in order to heat the burner and eifect a vaporization of the fuel proceeding from the receptacle 10 through the tip 34.
The deector 27, being interposed between the burner andthe receptacle 10, prevents the possibility of an overheating ot the receptacle and a consequent explosion.
N otches 100 may be formed in the upper edge of thel bowl 36. These notches are adapted to receive 'a Spanner wrench, used in threading the burner on the nipple 24, and in removing the burner therefrom. The notches, further, have another functiornin that they aid in admitting air into the bowl 36, and promote combustlon.
j I claim 1 A burner comprising a body having a base, and rovided at its upper end with a bowl,'the 1iiody being supplied with an air inlet, innerV and outer inverted cup-shaped capssupported in the bowl in spaced relation to each other, the outer cap beinv spaced from the inner surface of the bowl, tlie outer cap having side perforations, and the inner cap having an opening in its top, the interior of the inner cap being unencumbered, the inner cap communicating with the body throughout the entire cross section of the inner cap; and a tip carried by the base, the tip discharging directly into the inner cap.

A burner comprising a casing including va body having a base, and )rovided at its upper end with a bowl, the` owl being supplied with spaced overhanging lugs, the body having an opening; inner and outer inverted cup-shaped caps within the bowl, the caps having superposed flanges extended beneath the lugs and provided with notches for the reception of the lugs, the flange of the inner cap being supported on the bowl, and the outer cap having an imper- 'forate top, and being supplied with side perforations, there being an opening in the topl ofthe inner cap; and a tip carried by the base.
