Description

H. A. POST.
FOOT TREATING APPLIANCE. APPLICATION FILED AUG.24. 1918.
awe/M501 THE COLUMBIA PLANOGRIWH cm. WASHINGTON, D. c.
- which are left entirely free may be utilized 1 to advantage in grasping and steadying the respect to the bone and the position of the contact piece 1, whereupon the bone will be moved or pushed back to its normal and proper position, and this without interference from any of the adjacent bones. This latter is due to the fact that the tip of the contact piece is presented to the under side of the foot, and there are no lateral projections on the contact piece such as are likely to exert pressure against the portions of the foot at the sides of the particular bone that is being treated. In other words the contact piece 1 being small the said piece is presented to but one bone at a time,'and hence the individual treatment of the bones is rendered perfectly feasible. In the manner stated all of the misplaced bones of a foot are treated in proper succession and after repeated treatment in the manner indicated the malformation of the fallen arch will be completely and permanently corrected. 7
The device may be used upon either hand of the operator and in either use the contact piece 1 is capable of being accurately positioned to treat any bone of the foot.
The embodiment illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4c is similar to thatshown in Figs. 1 and 2 in that it comprises a contact piece 1 having the same characteristics and the same capacity of function as the contact piece 1. The said contact piece 1, however, is affixed to the hand somewhat in the same manner as a sail makers thimble. This will be fully understood when it is stated that the said contact piece l is carried in a holder or stall 2 and the said stall, in turn, is carried by a palm piece 4?, apertured at 5 to receive the base of the thumb, and equipped with an elastic holding strap 7 extending between and connected to its ends and adapted in use to rest at the back of the hand.
The modification in Figs. 3 and 4 is possessed of all of the advantages ascribed to the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and is also possessed of the advantage that follows from the thumb being left free so that it may be used in conjunction with the fingers in grasping and steadying the foot and correctly positioning the piece 1 and maintaining the same in the desired position.
The embodiments illustrated and specifically described constitute the best practical embodiments of my invention that I have as yet devised, but it is to be understood in this connection that I do not restrict myself to any particular mode of attaching the contact piece to or fastening the same upon the hand of the operator, nor do I desire to be understood as limiting myself to the fastening of the contact piece upon or the attachment of the same to the hand of the operator inasmuch as without departure from the principle of my invention the contact piece may be so equipped as to be firmly held by the hand.
Having described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patout is 1. A foot treating appliance comprising a disk-like contact piece, of yielding material having a fiat exposed side of a size to exert pressure against the under side of a single bone in the human foot without in terference from an adjacent bone or bones, a rigid holder carrying and backing said disk-like contact piece, and means for fastening the said holder in position upon the hand of an operator, whereby the fingers of the operator may be used to grasp and steady the foot coincident with the application of the pad under and against the bone that is to be manipulated.
2. A device for the purpose described comprising a thumb stall, a yielding contact piece carried at the forward end of the stall, a stifi shank on the stall and extending rearwardly therefrom, a strap connected with the shank and adapted to receive the base of an operators thumb, and a wrist strap also connected with the shank.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
