Application filed October 80, 1918. Serial No. 260,331.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT C. BLACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dunnellon, in the county of Marion and State of Florida, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toy Guns, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to a novel construction of toy guns and the. principal object of the invention is to provide a gun operated by the crank and adapted to shoot a number of balls in rapid succession.
Among other features the invention includes a magazine located below the barrel, an elevator for receiving the shot from the magazine and lifting it to a point in the rear of the end of'the barrel, a spring hammer for striking the shot for drivin it through the barrel and means operate by the crank for actuating the spring hammer and the elevator.
The invention also consists in certain other features of. construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the .several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of the invention;

Figs. 4 and 5 are detailed views of the elevating means.
As shown in these views the casing 1 is made in the form of a tank and is provided with the wheels 2. The front of the casing is formed from a block 3 having its magazine tube to the barrel consists of a- ,member 8 having-its side pieces 9 projecting {upwardly above the bottom 10 and said bot tom having a downwardly extending exten- I sion 11 which forms a stop for preventing the shot from leaving the end of the maga z ine tube while the elevator is in raised pos1tion. When the elevator is lowered the bottom 10 will pass below the end of the tube and as said tube is inclined the shot will roll onto the bottom. The sides 9 are bent toward each other at the rear so as to prevent the shot from rolling entirely of]? the bottom. The member 8 is pivoted on a pin 12 which is carried by the forked end of a lever 13. The other end of this lever is carried by a roller 14 pivoted in the sides of the casing, so that as the roller is rocked the elevator will be moved vertically in rear of the ends of the barrel and tube.
The spring hammer is formed from a spring plate 15 having its lower end secured to the lower part of the casing and its upper end carrying a projection 16 which 'forms the striking part of the hammer. As shown, the spring plate is immediately in rear of the member 8 so that when the elevator is raised the projection 16 will come between the rear edges of the sides 9 thereof so as to engage the shot held by said member.
The operating means for the hammer and I elevator consists of a roller 17, journaled in the sides of the casing, adjacent the top thereof, and havin one of its journals passing through one s de of the casing and rece1vin a crankhandle 18. This roller is provi ed with a projection 19 which is adapted to strike the upper end of the spring plate so as to force the same rearwardly, when the roller is rotated by the handle, and upon the continued rotation of the roller, the projection will leave the plate and thus permit the same to snap back and thus cause the hammer thereof to strike the shot on the elevator and drive the same through the barrel. The roller 17 is connected with atoothed wheel 20, which meshes with a second toothed wheel 21 journaled to the side of the casing. This second wheel carries a crank 22 which is connected with the roller 14 by a link 23. In this way when the crank handle is turned the roller 14 will be rocked to oscillate the forked lever and thus raise and lower the elevator.
It will be seen that by filling the magazine tube with shot and then rapidly turning the crank handle the shot will be expelled through the barrel in a stream, thus imitating the action of a rapid firing gun. The
shot may be the formlof wooden balls or the balls may be made of other material.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features in the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention,-what I claim is a 1. A device of the class described comprising a casing, a barrel carried thereby, an inclined magazine tube below the barrel, a vertically movable member located adjacent the inner ends of the barrel and tube and having a pocket therein for receiving a shot from the magazine tube, a vertical spring plate in rear of the elevator, a hammer on the upper end thereof, a crank handle and means operated thereby for moving the said member and actuating the spring plate to cause the hammer to strike the shot in the pocket.
2. A device of the class described comprising a casing, a barrel carried thereby, a magazine tube below the barrel, a vertically movable member located adjacent the inner ends of the barrel and tube and having a pocket therein for receiving a shot from the magazine tube, a forked lever carrying said member, a roller connected with said lever,
a spring hammer, a'second roller having a part thereon engaging with said hammer, means for connectlng the rollers together so that the rotary movement of the second roller will cause a rocking movement of the first roller and a crank handle connected with the second roller.
