To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Ranru SI-IUBTLEFF, a citizen of the United States. of America, a resident of the city of St. Louis, State of .Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flue-Stops, of"
which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in flue stops, the object being to provide a simple and inexpensive flue stop including an anchor adapted to be securely held in a flue opening and a closure positively connected to said anchor. In the preferred form of my invention, the anchor is a yieldable member adapted to be inserted into an ordinary stove pipe receiver and adapted to be anchored onto the flue structure. The closure, seated around the stove pipe opening, is connected to the anchor by an adjustable device which may be operated with the result of firmly forcing the yieldable anchor onto the flue structure, and at the same time forcing the closure onto its seat. The anchor, connected to the closure, serves as means for retaining the latter in firm engagement with its seat, and since the anchor is securely held in the flue structure, the device is well adapted to resist the pressure of air currents in the flue.
Figure I is a vertical section of a flue provided with a flue stop embodying the features of my invention.
Fig. II is a detail view of the flue stop, showing the inner face of the closure and the anchor connected to said closure.
To illustrate the practical use of my flue stop, I have shown a flue A having a stove pipe opening, and a stove pipe receiver B arranged in said opening. A closure-anchor 0 arranged partly within the stove pipe receiver is preferably, but not essentially, a single piece of strap iron bent to, approximately, the shape of a letter M, said anchor being provided with legs 1 having outturned feet 2 which engage the inner face of a flue wall. The legs 1 are preferably integrally connected to a bow 3 which extends across the opening in the flue wall. It will be noted that the anchor is a yieldable device which may be readily inserted into an ordinary stove pipe opening, and when it is arranged as shown in Fig. I, the anchor cannot be withdrawn without moving one of the yieldhind, I, preferably bend the feet 2 as shown in Fig. I so that the ends of said feet will firmly grip. the flue structure when the device is in service. A circular closure 4, seated around the flue opening, is provided with a central perforation for the reception of a connecting screw 5, the latter being screwed into the middle portion of the bow 3.
In applying the flue stop to a flue, the first step is to insert the yieldable anchor into the flue opening, and since the yieldable legs 1 tend to spring away from each other, the anchor is primarily held in position by frictional engagement with the flue structure.

then screwed into the how 3, and by operating this screw the angular feet 2 are moved into engagement with the inner face of the flue wall thereafter; the legs 1 are positively forced into engagement with the member B in response to the pulling action at the middle portion of the bow, and the marginal portion of the closure is firmly forced onto its seat. The yieldable anchor is thus adjusted to a position from which it will not yield in response to pressure on the inner face of the closure, the bow 3 being so arranged that such pressure will only tend to force the anchor into engagement with the flue structure.
I claim 1. The combination avith a stove fpitpe opening closure, of a flexible anchor back of said closure adapted to extend through said opening to a flue, the said anchor comprising a pair of parallel gripping legs adapted to contact with the wall of the opening and having feet at their inner ends adapted to bear against the flue wall, and a opening to a flue, the said anchor comprising a pair of parallel grippinglegs adapted to contact With the Wall of the opening throughout their lengths and having angular feet at their inner ends adapted to bear against the flue Wall, the said feet extending backwardly at acute angles to said grippinglegs, and a yieldable V-shaped spread connection uniting the outer ends of said gripping legs and having its apex farthest from and opposite the center of said closure, and
