CABLE-CLAMP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GABRIEL E. ROHMEI a citizen of the United States, and a resi dent of Elmhurst, Long Island, New York,
haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Gable-Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cable clamps andto the walls by means of expansion bolts, or
other suitable fastening means. The object of the invention is to provide an improved form of a clamp or hanging, which may be readily manufactured at a small cost, and which after being manufactured, may be readily installed, and when installed be immediately in place for use, and so arranged that after use, the free removal of the parts supported at any time may be had, leaving the clamp anchored fast to the wall, and in a position so as to be ready for another use.
The invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, and will be more fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claims.

Fig. 6 is a side view of another embodiment of my invention, showing the additional locking means, and
Fig. 7 is a side View of one form of clamp in closed position in full lines, and in open position indicated by dotted lines.

or opening 10, which preferably extends from a point near the end portion 11 of the clamp to a point near the other end thereof, as indlcated at 12. At this end 12 a part 13 of'the blank is bent up, and provided with [a curved interned hook-shaped portion 15.
This hook-shaped portion acts as a spring catch which automatically engages the free end of the loop portion through the slot therein. The blank 14 is also provided with an opening 16, through which a screw or fastening device 16 as an expansion bolt, or the like, may be passed for the purpose of fastening the clamp to masonry. The end 11 is slightly bent outward, as clearly shown by 18 in Figs. 3 and 4, so as to give a good grip to the operator when opening and closing the clamp, either for the hand or for any suitable tool, as a screw-driver, etc. The material, as strap iron, is of suit able flexibility and sufficient elasticity to enable the clamp to be readily moved from the open .position as shown in Fig. 4, and when moved into the engaging position as shown curely look the parts in position, and hold them locked. The bent-up portion 13 is provided with a curved portion 20, which forms a seat. or shoulder so: as to permit the innermost part 21 of the end 11 to ride 1 snugly thereon, so that when the hookshaped portion '15 is pressed downwardly, the end 11 will become disengaged, and move free of the hook 15, and thereby bring the parts into the open position as shown in Fig. 4. By the cooperation of'these parts, the clamp may be readily opened by the same downward pressure of the hook 15. Or, if
desired, a screw-driver may be placed between the end of the hook 15 and the edge 21 of the end 11, and then-the end 21 may readily ride on the shank of the screwdriver 23 as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 7
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, an additional means is provided for the purpose of snugly housing wires as it is some times advantageous to have the wires of the cables distantly and independently supported on each other. For this purpose the hook-shaped end is provided with a curved extension 31 which, with the curved end 30, forms a pocket or closed portion 33 for the purpose of supporting the wires 32. By this means the wires 32 are supported independently of the cable 34. In other respects the parts shown in Fig. 5 are substantially like those shown in Figs. 1 to 4.
In Fig. 6 still another embodiment 1s shown in'which the end 35 is provided with an opening 36, through which the end 37 of the hook-shaped portion 38 passes, and whereby and by reason of the tension which the parts exert on each other, after having been brought into the position shown in Fig. 6, a secure locking action is obtained. The wires 40 are shown as supported in the pocket or closed portion 39, and the cable is shown clearly by 41 In other respects this embodiment follows the general lines of manufacture of the embodiments shown in Figs. 1 to 4.
In Fig. 7 the operation of the device is clearly shown as above indicated, in which a screw-driver which is shown in dotted lines by 23, is inserted between the hookshaped end 45 of the shoulder or seat 46, and by the downward pressure of the hook by the screw-driver on the engagement of the pointed end of the shank of the screwdriver between the seat 46 and the edge 47 of the end 48 of the clamp, the edge 47 of the end 48 is caused to ride along the shank of the screw-driver 23, and gradually to the position shown in dotted lines 49, whereupon the clamp is brought to its open position, and the cable may be inserted therein, as shown in Fig. 5, for instance. After that the clamp is again closed by the pnssure exerted upon the end 48 until'the engage- V ment of the parts results, whereby the cable is held in secure position, as desired.
I have shown several embodiments of my invention, but it is clear that changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the same as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A cable clamp composed of sheet metal and comprising an attaching shank having a spring catch integral therewith provided at its outer end with an upturned and inturned lip, and a spring loo integral with said shank and provided with an out-turned lip at its free end and a slot adjacent thereto, the slotted free end of said loop being adapted to ride over and automatically engage said inturned lip of the catch on closing the clamp around the cable.
2. An improved cable clamp comprising a member having a straight portion and a rounded portion bent upwardly therefrom, the said member being provided with an elongated opening extending from a point relatively removed from the upper end of 06 the said straight portion to a point relatively removed from the upper end of the said rounded portion, the straight portion above the said opening being of a single thickness and provided with means for securing the same to a support, the upper end of the said rounded portion above the opening being curved outwardly, and a connecting member struck from the said opening and formed continuous with the upper part of the said straight portion and provided at its end with an upturned portion adapted to engage the end of the opening beneath the said outwardly bent part of the rounded portion to close the clamp about the cable, the upper part of the said upturned portion of the connecting member adapted to engage the outwardly curved part of the rounded portion and forming therewith a. closed portion adapted to independently house wires, the weight of the cable exerting a downward pull thereon and maintaining the same closed.
3. An improved cable clamp comprising a 7 member having a straight portion and a rounded portion bent upwardly therefrom, the said member being provided with an elongated opening extending from a point relatively removed from the upper end of the said strai ht portion to a point relatively remove from the upper end of the said rounded portion, the straight portion above the said opening being of a single thickness and provided with means for securing the same to a support, the upper end I of the said rounded portion being curved outwardly and provided therein with an opening, and a connecting member struck from the said elongated opening and formed continuous with the upper part of the said straight portion and provided at its end with an upturned portion adapted to engage the end of the said elongated opening beneath the said outwardly-bent part of the rounded portion to close the clamp about the cable, the upper end of the said upturned portion of the connecting member adapted to engage the said opening of the outwardly curved part of the rounded portion, and forming therewith a closed por-a tion adapted to independently house wires, the weight of the cable exerting a downward pull thereon, and maintaining the same closed. 7
