UNITED STATES 1 l.. rE1\TT ,oEFicn WILLIAM' osnYcUx, or ALLENroWN, rENnsYnvama;
TOY.
:To all' 'whom 'it may concern.
Be it known that I, WILLIAMOSEYCHU'K,
' f a citizen of Ukraine, residing at Allentown,
in the' county of Lehigh and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of whlch the following is a specification.
The primary object of the inventlon 1s l the provisionI of a toy in the nature of' a bar member, the antics of the ligure being` gymnast whereby a figure or rough representation of a human being 1s caused perform in various ways upon a horizontal produced and controlled by pressure exerted by the handof the operator.
A further object of the 1nvent1on 1s the i provision of 'an automaton having a normal depending position andl adapted for performing movements or antics slmilar to those of a gymnast upon' a trapeze or horizolrtfal bar, such operation being easilyV and qlllickly accomplished by the person 1n c arge of the device.
`W1th these eneral objects 1n v1ew the invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing and in which like reference characters designate correspondlng parts throughoutthe several views.
In the drawings, l Figure 1 is-a front elevation of the invention in its normal position members being illustrated by dotted lines in their adjusted positions and withy parts broken away.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof with one side member broken away and Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1, of a slightly modified form of construction.
My invention primarily consists of a frame having opposite side bars 10 and 1l connected together adjacent their upper ends by a flexible cord12 in the form of a loop extending through the said bars as well as through the spaced arms 13 of a doll or figure, 14. The arms 13 of the doll are pivotally connected to the b'ody of the doll while legs 15 are` swingingly carried thereby in a similar manner.
A brace 16 connects the side bars 10 and 11 substantially centrally, one end of the brace being pivoted as at 17 'to the side bar l1 while an opposite reduced end 18 of the brace freely extends through an opening 19 in the opposite bar 10. A spring 20 upon Speoioation o! Letters Patent.
the reduced-end lS ofthe brace 1.6 between4 the bar 10 and a shoulder 21 of the brace normally maintains the bar 10 engaging a stop pin 22 extending through the bracev brace ,23 normally retains the bar 10 engage' ing a stop pin 22" positioned through the brace portion 18 outwardly of said bar 10.
The normal vposition of the device is illustrated in Fig. l of the drawing and by grasping the bars 10 and 11 in the hand at a point between the braces 16 and 23, the lower ends of the bars Imay be drawn toward each other by tilting the bar 10 as illustrated by dotted lines. This action causes the twisted cord 12; to straighten out in the form of a rectangular loop theieb reversing the vertical direction of the dolls arms 13 and carrying the body and legs of the doll along with the arm. Upon releasing the pressure upon the bars 10 and 11, the springs 20 as well as the weight of the doll 14, upon the cord 12, ,will cause the bar 10 to return to its normal position parallel with the opposite bar 11. By alternately drawing the lower portion of the bar 10 toward the bar 11 and releasingthe same, the doll 14 will be caused to rise and swing over the cord 12 after the manner lof a gymnast performing upon a horizontal bar and the antics of the doll may be readily controlled at the pleasure of the operator.
In Fig. 3 of the drawing, the doll 14 is provided with pivoted legs 15 while its arms 13 are carried by the cord 12 secured through the side bars 10 and 11 adjacent one end of the device in a manner identical to that illustrated in Fig. 1. A single cross brace 16 is provided in this form of the invention with one end of said brace fixed as at 25 in the side bar 11. The reduced opposite end 18 of the brace freely extends through an opening 19 in the opposite bar 10 while a spring 20 mounted upon the brace portion 18" holds the bar member 10 in normal engagement with the stop pin 22" adjacent the outer end of the brace. By drawing the lower free ends of the bars 10' brace 23-4 is'provided at the op-.

of the inventlon that is easily operated andv is normally positioned ready for use.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, the spring 20 is preferably weaker than the spring 20 so that the invention will operate as herein described no matter where the pressure of the hand is exerted,
upon the bars 10 and 11 at any point between the braces 16 and 23 although better results may be obtained by engaging the said bars at points adjacent the end brace 23.
1. A toy comprising side bars, a looped cord adapted to assume rectangular shape connected between the ends of the bars at one end of the device, a doll figure comprising a body having pivoted legs and arms with the arms freely positioned upon the loop, a substantially' centrally positioned brace between said bars having swinging' connection. with each of the bars and a shield portion. adjacent one end, a brace at the opposite -end of the device from said cord plvoted to the bar and slidably positloned with a shoulder adjacent the same through the opposite bar and resilient means upon said braces between said shoulders and bars adapted for normally maintaining the bars parallel. Y
2. A toy comprisin opposite bars, a flexible member connecte between adjacent ends of said bars, a doll swingingly carried by sald flexible member adapted for changing its posltion during the straightening and the twlstlng of said flexible member, a brace pivotally connected substantially centrally between said bars, an end brace pivoted to one of said bars adjacent the opposite end thereof from said cord and having a reduced end freely projecting through the opposite .bar and a'spring surrounding said end bearmg against the adjacent bar whereby the. bars are normally maintained parallel wlth the doll gure suspended therebetween.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
