UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

, DISPLAY DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. .26, 1919..
Application filed November 14, 1918. Serial No. 262,439.
' To '07 whom it may concern Be it known that we, RICHARD C. KAISER citizens of the United States, residing at New Rochelle,
county of Westchester, and State of New York,.-and in the city, county, and State of New York, respectively, have invented certain new :and useztul Improvements in Dis- :play Devices, of which the following is a Specification.
. zOur invention relates ;to the mounting and displaying .of fabrics in the piece such as woolen goods, dress :goods and the like, and
is especially adapted for the display of woolen goods in the piece.
An especial object of our invention is the provision of means by which the woolen goods may be displayed without the necesfSlty of the employment of an entire bolt of tabric for this purpose but which will give the same effect as to draping, etc., as if the whole ibOlt of :cloth were employed.
An especial object of our invention is the provisionbf a mounting and display apparatus for the use of woolen goods merchants :and merchant tailors, by which a number of woolen fabrics may be effectively and economically displayed.
At the present time it is the practice of merchant tailors and woolen goods merchants to have in stock bolts or large pieces of fabrics which they intend to offer to prospective customers. These are kept stored upon shelves or tables and must be pulled out and shown one by one to the prospective customers. This is a time consuming operation, which speedily wearies the customer, as .-large bolts :or pieces :of fabric must be pulled out and shown one by one, and in addition, the customer fails to secure the proper appreciation of the goods submitted for his inspection because it is difficult to compare them, and the average customer is unable to spend suflicient time to properly look over the lines submitted to him. Furthermore, this is an expensive manner of keeping and displaying fabricsfor the woolen goods merchant or merchant tailor, as, to properly display fabrics in the piece, a large belt of cloth must be handled at each inspection of the fabric.
According to our invention, a very simple and cheap device is provided which is suitable for the window, counter or floor display of fabrics in the piece and which not only provides a convenient means for rapidly and efficiently displaying fab1iics,but also for storing same in stock. Other objects .of .our invention will be set forth in the zfollowi-n description and drawings which illustrate preferred embodimentsoai' our invention.
Figure 1 .is a .side view of our invention embodiedin a swinging-display rack.
Fig. 2 is ;a detail perspective view show- .ing the specific construction of the holding brackets.
F fig. ,3 is an elevation of our invention embodied in a stand [tor window display.
Fig. 4 is .an-cnd view of Fig. 3.
F i 5 is an end view of Fig. 6 showing a double display stand.
Fig. 6 is an elevation of Fig. 5.
In Figs. Land 9. aiseriesrof metal shafts 2, are supported at their .tops and bottoms in metallic members 1 and 5 respectively, so that .they are ,revolubly held. These shafts 2, as well as the parts 1 and 5, may be .of any known metal construction which is .not set forth in detail herein, because many wellknown types may be employed because this is not in itselfanessential part ofour invention. Metallic frames 3 are secured in .any suitable ,manner to the revoluble shafts 2, and are [further connected thereto by the angle members 30, which further strengthen the structure.
A series of holding brackets 7, are connected to the metal frames .3. As shown more particularly in Fig. 2, these holding brackets .7 areicomposed of foundation members 9, which are preferably made [of a single strip of ,metal, bent into shape, .the general contour of each said foundation member .9, being that .of .a .U on each side of the frame 3. The strips of metal of which the foundation members ;9 are composed Zane referably made quite resilient and springy.
he foundation members 9 are secured to the tops of the frames 3 by any suitable means, such as spot-welding or the like. An upper horizontal clamping member 10, is secured to two of the foundation mem ers 9 at each side of the framet, and has the general contour shown in Fig, 2', and is secured to the inner legs and outer legs of the foundation members 9, by spot-weldin at substantially the points .12 and 14. ese members 10 are also made of springy metal.
Side holding members 1 5 having the conto, each said bracket welding. The side members. 15 are preferably made of rigid metal, and are parallel to the upper and lower bars of the frames 3,'so that the yield, if any, is in the resilient members, before mentioned.
Boards Shaving tapered lower ends are fitted into these brackets 7, and serve for holdinga piece of fabric which can be draped over them so as to display the fabric to the prospective customer. In Figs. 3and 4;, the holding brackets are shown combined with a stand 31, and in Fig. 6, the stand 32 has a double set of these brackets 7. Rear brackets 7, can be arranged with respect to the front brackets in any pleasing arrangement so as to better display the goods. The structures shown in Figs. 8, 4t, 5, and 6, are more adapted for window display while that shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is more adapted for show-room display. Of course, the var1ous structures can be made up of parts so that they can be conveniently shipped, put together and taken apart again whenever desired. 1
'We, have shown a preferred embodiment of our invention but we do not wish to be limited to the details thereof, as numerous changes and omissions can be made without departing from its spirit.
We claim: 1. In combination, a frame having upper and lower bars and a bracket secured therecomprising two foundation members having substantially U- shaped branches on each side of the said bars, the said branches being joined above thetop of the uppermost of said bars and secured thereto, a substantially horizontal holding member secured to said two foundation members and passing between the inner legs of the said U-shaped branches and the said bars, and side holding members secured to the bottoms of the said substantially U- shaped branches and to branches on each side of the said bars, the I said branches being joined above the top of the uppermost of said bars and secured thereto, a substantially horizontal holding member secured to said two foundation members and passing between the inner legs of the said U-shaped branches and the said bars, and side holding members secured to the bottoms of the said substantially U- shaped branches and to the said substantially horizontal holding members, the said foundation members and the said horizontal holding member being springy and the said side member being rigi 3. In combination, a frame having upper and lower bars, foundation members having branches on each side of the said bars of a substantially U-shape, vthe inner legs of the said branches meeting above the uppermost of the said bars and being securedto the top of the said uppermost bar, the bottoms of the said U-shaped branches extending substantially to the lowermost of the said bars, means for securing the inner legs of the said U-shaped branches to the said lowermost bar, a horizontal holding member secured to the outer legs of the said branches and passing between the inner legs of the said U-shaped branches and the uppermost of the said bars and located at substantially the level of the said uppermost bar, and side holding members secured to the side of the said horizontally holding members and the I bottoms of the said branches.
In testimony whereof we hereunto affix our signature RICHARD C. KAISER. NICHOLAS J. MIANO.
