J. BOLLIGER;
Improvement in Machines to Cut Cobble Stones.
No. $1,389. Patented Sep.17, 1872.
hZ WZ/W [704902072 UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
FOURTHS OF HIS RIGHT. TO LOUI SAME PLACE.
S DUTERTRE AND E. D. SAWYER, OF
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES TO CUT COBBLE-STCNES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,389, dated September 17, 1872.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JACOB BOLLIGER, of the city and county of San Francisco, of the State of California, have invented a Cobble- Stone Cutter or a Machine to Cut Cobble- Stone, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to a device for holding and clipping off the ends of cobble-stones for pavements and for other purposes.
Figure 1 represents a side view; Fig. 2, an end view; and Fig. 3, a view of the side opposite to that shown in Fig. 1. V
B represents the base, preferably of castiron, concaved at top, and provided with a tenon, G, to fit a mortise in a suitable ho'lding-block. The stone to be clipped or broken is held in this concavity by a concaved top piece, C, having a projecting handleyand hinged to a plate, D, pivoted at I, so as to allow the top piece to adapt itself to the size and shape of the stone being held. A steel knife, A, is fitted to the base just in advance of the concaved holding-surfaces, and is confined in the groove in the base by means of the link F.
In operation, the main portion of the stone is held in the concavedseat of the base by the top piece, and one end rests on the knife. The stone directly over the knife is struck with a hammer and its end is clipped off, forming a smooth surface specially adapted for paving, as described in an application now pending for pavement.
Having described my invention, I claim The mechanism substantially as herein described for holding and cutting stones.
. JACOB BOLLIGER.
Signed in the presence of- I E. D. SAWYER, A. EVERETT BALL.
