The invention relates to improvements in ore classifiers as described in the present specification and shown in the accompanying drawing's that form part of the same.
he invention consists essentially of thenovel construction and arrangement of parts whereby the discharge screen of a grinding mill is provided with a fluid means for forcing the oversize particles from said screen.
he objects of the invention are to prevent the accumulation of oversize particles in the discharge screen, to facilitate the discharge and generally to provide a simple and inexpensive means for increasing the efliciency of ore classifiers.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through the grindin and discharge end of an ore classifier an showing the-fluid pipe arranged within the discharge screen.
Fig. 2 is a detail of the fluid pipe, one end of said pipe being in longitudinal section to disclose the interior.
Fig. 3 shows a modified form of screen having an enlarged outer end'to facilitate the discharge of the oversize particles.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is the grinding chamber adapted to be rotated by suitab. e machinery secured to its end 2 and having the discharge end 3 terminating above the launder 4, said discharge end referably having the outwardly flaring e g'es 5 to facilitate the discharge of the contents.
The discharge end 3 is rovided with a substantially funnel sha screen 6 having its larger end secured a jacent to the inner end of said discharge end and having its clyl'lindrical end extending outwardly beyond t e launder 4.
It has been found in connection with the "of the finer classifiers now in use that the oversize particles have a tendency to accumulate in the discharge end and thus retard the discharge articles and while the'screen does away with this to a very great extent, I find that by introducing a stream of water or other means into said screen the discharge of said oversize particles is greatly facilitated.
7 is a feed pipe connected at one of its ends to the source of supply and at the other end to the distributing pipe 8 extendin inwardly to the extreme inner end 0 the screen 6 adjacent to the upper side thereof, said pipe 8 being closed at its inner end by the ca 9 and having a plurality of nozzles 10 from the under side thereof projecting downwardly and obliquely in-the direction of the discharge.
In the operation of this invention the ore is introduced into the chamber 1 through the end 2 and is thoroughly ground by its engagement with the grinding medium through the rotation of said chamber, the finerparticles sifting through the bottom of the screen 6 while the particles which are too large to ass through the meshes of said screen are fdrced outwardly through said screen by the jets of water or other fluid from the pi 'e 8 after which they are collected for su sequent return to the grinding chamber.
In Fig. 3 a modified form of screen is shown in which the outer end 12 is also of cone shape thus providing a downward incline for the passage of the oversize particles.
By this invention a means is rovided for keeping the particles continual y in motion in their assage outwardly from the grinding chamber thus preventing any clogging or accumulation of the ore and increasing screen ri 'dly secured in said neck and converging om the entrance to said neck to m a r, 1,313,734
