To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, 'CHnIs'r BAnrHoLoMAI, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, at present residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of Califo-rnia,*have invented a new and useful Improvement in Centrifugal Screens and Classifiers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a centrifugal screen and classifier, the object being to provide a machine which will separate and classify a product from a crushing machine.
A further object of my invention is to provide a machine which is so constructed that the products are fed into the hopper convolute blades over a screen.
and from there are distributed by radially The small particles pass through the screen into a distributer and the large particles pass through the sides of the distributor and to the outer hopper.
A further object is to provide a machine which is exceedingly simple in construction and which is composed of a very few parts and not likely to get out of order.
It is the object also to provide a concentric hopper in connection with the screen whereby the water will be forced outwardly through the screen so as to keep the mesh open, whereby all danger of the meshes becoming clogged is prevented. and also to provide a novel means for adjusting the shafts which carry the screen and distributer, whereby they may be forced below the water level or drawn above the same.
Another object is to provide a plurality of concentric hoppers, each having a discharge port; and also to provide a novel means-for clamping the distributer upon the screens whereby it can be quickly removed in order to replace the screens when they have become worn.
A still further object is to provide a machine which will separate the products from the crushing mill and classify the same in condition to be concentrated, all of which will now be set forth in detail.
Figure 1 is a vertical section of my improved centrifugal screen and classifier. Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Flg. 1. Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 4-et of Fig. 1.
In. carrying out my improved construction I provide a frame A which 1s mounted on a suitable base'and on which is secured an upper frame B the two frames being bolted together as shown. Secured between the uprights A of the frame A is a hopper G provided with a discharge spout C through which the large pieces of rock are adapted to pass, as will be hereinafter fully described. Secured within the hopper C,
concentric with the same, is a hopperD,
C, D and E is a water inlet pipe F which is connected with a water pipe F, having a valve F for controlling the flow of water through the same, and it will be seen that as the water is forced int-o the hoppers it will rise until it reaches the outlet G formed in the hopper C which is also provided with a screen G for preventing the small particles from passing out of the hopper.
Mounted in suitable ball bearings secured on the upper frame 13, is a hollow shaft H, which has secured thereon a bevel gear H which meshes with a bevel gear I carried by the shaft 1. This shaft 1 is also provided with a tight and loose pulley over which is adapted to pass a drive belt, not shown, for driving the same, and it will be seen that as the shaft I is driven the hollow shaft H will also be rotated. Extending through the hollow shaft H is a shaft J, carrying a key J, which extends through a longitudinal slot formed in the shaft H to lock the same to the shaft. so that when the shaft H is rotated the shaft J will turn also. The upper end of the shaft J is threaded, and carries on the threaded portion a hand wheel K, which rests against the end of the shaft H, for adjusting the shaft J vertically, andthe shaft J is locked in any desired position by a jam-nut K.
The shaft J extends down into the hopper C and has secured to its lower end a concentric rim L which is formed of two sections so that it can be readily attached to or detached from the same. This concentrio rim is provided with radially convolute blades L which are transversely concaved so that when the rim is rotated the water will be forced upwardly for the purpose hereinafter described.
The central hub portion of the concentric rim L is provided with a depending portion L", over which is secured a sleeve portion M having a conical deflector M, which is arranged concentric with the lower end of the inwardly inclined and depending flange D of the hopper D, and is adapted to throw the material outwardly. The outer lower edge of the concentric rim L is provided with a depending flange L which extends downwardly over the straight portion of the. hopper D and is spaced therefrom a slight distance so as to allow the material to pass between the same. This flange is provided with apertured lugs L, in which are pivotally mounted bolts N, which extend through slotted lugs 0 on the distributer O. This distributer is arranged upon a screen P which rests upon the concentric rim L and is supported by the convolute blades L and by the bolts N which look in the apertured lugs 0 by wedge-shaped keys, (not shown), thus holdin V the screen tightly between the distributer andthe concentric rim L.
The shaft J is surrounded by a sectional sleeve Q bolted together over the same, the lower edges of which rest within a central hopper O of the distributer O. The distributer has within it the central hopper O which is connected to a disk R by bolts R, which are. locked by Wedge-shaped keys, (not shown).
The hopper O is provided with cut-out portions Q Fig. le-forming outlets, and mounted upon the connecting convolute blades between the walls of the hopper O and the walls of the distributer O are radially convolute blades 0 which divide the same into several compartments so that as the material is fed into the hopper through the pipe S it will pass clearly through the openings in the hopper and as the same .is rotated the small particles will be forced through the bottom screen P, the large particles being thrown outwardly by the centrifugal force. The outer rim of the distributer at a junction therewith of each convolute blade is provided with a removable screen T through which the large particles are adapted to pass which have failed to pass through the screen P, and it will be seen that these large particles of rock will drop into the outer hopper C and will be led into the discharge spout G by gravity.
The distributer Q is preferably formed of four convolute blades 0- but it is understood that it can be formed of more or less, as may be desired, but when formed of four,
three of the same are provided with gates T which can be removed and inserted in the place of the screens T, and it will be seen that by this arrangement the products of all the compartments will be forced out of the compartment without the gate so as to cause the same to pass longer over the screen P. It is, of course, understood that this is only done when peculiar ore is being separated, and it is not necessary in separating the ordinaryore.
The shaft H isrotated through the medium of the gears and as the material is fed into the central hopper of the distributer it will be divided into four equal parts by the four radial convolute blades 0 and forced outwardly by centrifugal force over the screen, it being understood, of course, that water is being forced into the hopper through the water pipe F with SlllfiClGIlt force to carry the ore upwardly to a certain extent, and it will be seen that the ore on being separated Will be carried along by the water and as the small particles pass through the screen and strike the conical deflector M, which is shown directly over the end of the water pipe, the stream of water forces it upwardly over the edge of the hopper E, so that it will pass into the hopper D. At the same time the concave-shaped blades L of the concentric rim are forcing water out through the screens which keeps the meshes open, and as the material travels outwardly on the screen by centrifugal force it is forced through the screens T of the outerrim and drops down into the outer hopper C, it being understood that the meshes of the screen and distributer are larger than the mesh of the screen over which the material has been passed. As the small particles pass through the screen P they strike the convolute deflectors L and are forced upwardly, the lighter material passing down over the flange D of the hopper D into this hopper, and the intermediate particles gradually dropping, by gravity, into the hopper E, and thus, by this arrangement, the particles from the crushing machine will be classified and washed so that they will be in condition to be concentrated.
What I claim as new, is:
1. A machine of the kind described, comprising a frame, a revoluble shaft mounted vertically on the frame, a hopper, a centrifugal rim carried by the shaft, a screen arranged on said rim, a istributer provided with convolute blades 1 arranged on the screen, said distributer being provided with removable screens at the junction of the ribs with the rim. f
2. A machine of the kind described, comprising a hopper, a revoluble screen mounted in the hopper, a distributer arranged over said screen, comprising a plurality of convolute blades, and an outer rim, said rim being provided With removable screen sections at the junction of the ribs with the same.
3; In a machine of the kind described, the combination With a revoluble screen of a distributer arranged on said screen, comprising a central receiving hopper and an outer rim connected with said hopper by convolute blades forming compartments, each compartment being provided with a screen covered 10 outlet, and a plurality of said blades each being provided with a removable gate.
