Specification ofLetters Patent.
Application filed May 13, 1918. Serial No. 234,188.
To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, MACK H. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Finis, in the county of Jack, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit-Cutting Implements; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in fruit cutting implements and particularly to devices for splitting lemons. 7
One object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this character whereby a lemon or other Similar fruit can be quickly and effectively cut into two equal parts, preparatory to the squeezing thereof.
Another object is to provide a novel and simple device of this character which will avoid the usual and dangerous practice of cutting the lemons with a knife, as well as to greatly increase the speed with which the lemons can be cut.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in open position, and looking from the pivotal end of the device.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 and 11 represent a pair of levers which are pivotally connected together at one end, as shown at 12. Intermediate the ends of the lever 10 there is formed a fiat diskal portion 13, and extending at right angles from the inner face of said portion is a block 14. In the end face of the block there is formed a recess 15 which is adapted to receive a portion of the lemon to be squeezed, as will be more fully explained hereinafter. Formed longitudinally through the center of the block is a kerf or slot 16 which divides the block into tWo portions, as is clearly shown in the drawing. At a corresponding portion slots 19, by means of the transverse rivets' Patented Au 19, 1919. r
or pins 20. The edge of the knife blade, 7
within the ring, or that edge which is directed toward and which is received in the kerf of the block 14, when the levers are brought together, is formed with a point 21, the portions of this edge inclining longitudinally in opposite directions away from said point. Thus the knife blade will be better able to get a start into the lemon when the levers are brought together.
It will thus be seen that when a lemon is placed in the inner portion of the ring, and the lever 10 moved toward said ring, the block 14: will engage the lemon and push the same against the knife blade with the result that the lemon will be cut into two. parts and pushed through the ring. Thus the lemon can be more quickly and effectively cut than where a lmife isused. Also, the danger to the fingers of the operator is eliminated.
There is thus provided a novel and simple device by means of which lemons, as well as other similar small fruit, can be cut preparatory to squeezing the juices therefrom, and without danger to the fingers of the operator. Furthermore, the speed with which the fruit can be cut is greatly increased over the old method of using a knife.
What is claimed is:
1. A fruit cutting implement including a" the levers having an intermediate disk porangular knife blade secured Within the ring tion formed With an elevated extending and arranged for reception in said kerf. 10 block having alongitudinal kerf, said block In testimony whereof, I aflix my signabeing formed with a lemon receiving recess ture'in the'presence of two Witnesses.
