Description

E.R\WESTON.
Improvement in'Burnishers for Photographs, &c.
N0. $1,319. Patented Sep. l0, -l872.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
EMILE R. W'ESTON, OF EAST CORINTH, MAINE.
EMPROVEMENT IN BURNISHERS FOR PHOTOGRAPHS, 8w.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,319, dated September 10, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILE R. WESTON, of East Corinth, in the county of Penobscot and State of Maine, haveinvented a certain new and useful Improved Burnisher for Photographs, 860.; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others to make and use my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 shows a side view; Fig. 2, an end elevation of roll and burnisher.
The same letters show like parts.
My invention embodies, in a new and in some respects more convenient form, the principles of the photographic burnisher upon which I made application for a patent April 22, 1872. It is adapted to finishing pictures of larger size, is more compact, and in these respects is an improvement on those devices. As in that application, the concave burnisher of hard metal, together with the convex bed, is used, but in this improvement the bed consists of a convex roll supplied with a crank, for giving it a rotary motion, which motion feeds the card through between the burnisher and bed or roll. Pressure and heat are applied to the burnisher, the curved surface of which and the circular form of the bed or roll give but a small line of pressure upon the card and prevent its curving around the roll, which would tend to break and destroy it.
In the drawing, A shows the base; B B, the standards supporting the roller; 0, the roller; and (Z, the attached crank. At 6 is a standard supporting the burnishing tool 1?,- f, a pressure-screw, by which said tool may be pressed against the roll 5 and l, a lamp, for supplying the heat. This device may also be applied to burnishing articles of kindred nature, such as card-board, 85c.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In the burnish er, substantially of the withindescribed construction, the combination of the convex roll 0 and concave burnishing-tool t, substantially as specified.
EMILE R. WESTON.
