CASE B.
To all whom it may concern:

My improvement is intended to apply to that class of bnrnishers for photographs in which the card or other article is fed over the surface of a burnishingtool heated by the flame of a lamp, gasjet, or like device, and is designed to protect the card or other article from injury by the smoke or flame.
My device will be understood by reference to the drawing.
A shows the plate common to these machines, supporting the burnisher I), under which plate the lamp or gas-jet for supplying the heat is placed. At 0 is a downwardlyprojecting flange extending across the front of the plate A, under, or nearly under, the tool I). This serves to retain the smoke and flame from the heating apparatus, preventing its escape along the front of the plate, and protecting the article to be burnished as it passes over the tool. If sufliciently stout this flange also serves to stiffen the plate and burnisher.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a burnishing-machine, the flange 0, projecting downward from the burnisher-support ing plate A, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this (3th day of April, 1874.
