Description

A. J. ANDERSON.
EAVES TROUGH HANGEIL APPLICATION HLED SEPT. 6.1917.
' Patented Aug. 12,1919.
I attoznuqd ALBIN JOHN ANDERSON, OF KINGS PARK, NEW YORK.
EAVES-TROUGH HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 12, 1919.
Application filed September 6, 1917. Serial No. 190,054.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lcnown that I, ALBiN JOHN ANDER- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kings Park, in the county of Sufiolk and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eaves- Trough Hangers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to eave trough hangers.
This invention aims to provide a simple and efficient means whereby the position of eave troughs may be adjusted to intercept the water passing from roofs irrespective of the change of the water flow or stream lines as affected by differentroof pitches.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means for preventing the trough from swinging longitudinally of the roof by the action of wind or the like.
A further object of the invention is the provision of means on the trough support and cooperating with the support bracket for locking in position an improved means for limiting the upward movement of the trough relative to the support therefor.
lVith the above and other objects in view,
the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, the proportion, size and minor details, without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the invention; 7
Fig. 3 is a sectional side view of the invention;
Fig. 4: is a detail view of the trough sup- P Fig. 5 is a perspective detall of the locking wire.
Referring now, more particularly to the In the present instance there is provided a bracket supportv 1 which is rightangular in form one portion of which constitutes a roof engaging membei Q' provided with openings through which securing, members 3 are passed for anchoring the. member of V the upper surface of the roof A, said portion being bent downwardly to provide a fascia engaging member a and is subsequently bent inwardly to form a wall engaging member 5. The opposite portion ofthe support is v 'bent into the shape described.
Securely mounted uponthe bracket support 1 is a trough support generally designated by 7 which is provided with an arm 8 curved outwardly, upwardly and inwardly from the straight edge 9 of the hanger arm 6 substantially in the shape of a hook within which the trough (not shown) is seated.
The hanger arm 6 is provided with a plurality of spaced, alined openings 10 adjacent the straight edge 9 thereof and these openings 10 are adapted for registration with certain of a plurality of openings 11 in the trough support 7 to receive a bolt 12 for securing the same to the bracket 1.
A strap or-wirelocking member--13 is secured in an opening 1A formed in the upper end of the arm 8 of the trough support 7 The opposite or free end of the wire 13 is passed through the uppermost of the regis- -tering openings 10 and 11 in the support 7 and bracket 1 and is bent to securely hold the support to. the bracket and lock the wire positively in position to hold the trough within the trough support as illustrated at 13 Stress is laid upon the fact that the same medium which holds the support to the bracket effects locking of the wire to prevent movement of the trough within the support.
In operation, the support 7 is moved upon the bracket 1 to the required position as indicated by the angle of the Water stream lines as affected by varying roof pitches. The proper openings 10 and 11 are then brought into registration and the bolt 12 is secured thereto to hold the support in place.
The trough (not shown) is then placed within the support 7 and the wire disposed with its free bent end within the upper registering openings 10 and 11 in the manner before referred to, thus assembling the device for effective operation. Lateral swinging of the support arm 7 is prevented by the peculiar arrangement of the member 5 and the hanger arm 6.
In addition to providing an eave trough hanger of this character which may be easily adjusted, the invention also embodies the desirable features of simplicity and durability, and is exceedingly eflicient for the purpose intended.
lVhat is claimed is:
1. An eave trough hanger comprising a bracket support formed from a rightangir lar blank, one port-ion of which constitutes a roof engaging member, the said portion being bent downwardly to form a fascia en gaging member, a wall engaging member continuing from the fascia engaging member, the opposite portion of the support being bent downwardly and arranged in alincment with one side edge of the wall engaging member to provide a hanger arm, means engaging the roof engaging member for anchoring the support in position, a trough support aoljustably connected vertically of the arm, and a locking wire movably connected to the trough support and designed to be engaged with the arm and the support for firmly anchoring the support in position.
2. An eave trough hanger comprising a bracket support formed from a rightangular "blank, one portion of which is adapted to be disposed against the wall of a building while the other portion is laterally dis-V posed with respect to the upper end of the first portion and is bent to provide a roof 3. An eave trough hanger comprising a bracket support formed from a rightangular blank one portion of which constitutes a roof engaging member, the said portion being bent downwardly to form a fascia engaging member, a wall engaging member continuing from the fascia engaging member, the opposite portion of the support being bent downwardly, said arm having a vertical series of openings therein, means engaging the openings in the roof engaging member for anchoring the support, a trough support including a. body and an outwardly and upwardly and inwardly curved arm projecting from the body, fastening means engaged through the. body 'of the trough support and engageable with another of the openings of the hanger arm for adjustably connecting the support to the arm, and a locking wire movably connected with the outer end of the arm of the trough support and having its free end releasably engaged through one of the openings in the hanger arms and through theupper portion of the body of the trough support for holding the trough support to the bracket support for holding the wire in a locked position.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
ALBIN JOHN ANDERSON.
