ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I-IILARIo HUERTA, a citizen of Mexico, residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in advertising devices and has for its object to provide a device of that class wherein magnets, which are hidden from view, are employed for moving a carrier bearing an advertisement, or article to be advertised, in a circular path upon a suitable support ing surface.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and finally pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, wherein like characters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views:

In carrying out the aim of my present invention, I employ a suitable housing 1 having the bottom or floor 2. The upper end or head of the housing consists of a drumskin 3, or its equivalent. The drum-skin 3 forming the upper surface of the housing is stretched tight and held in position by any suitable means, such as a ring 4. Suitable fastening members 5 are fixed at their upper end to the hoop 4 and their lower ends pass through ears 6 fixed to the housing 1. The lower end of each fastening member is screw-threaded and provided with a nut 7. A suitable coiled spring 8 encircles the lower end of each fastening member 5 and is in terposed between the ears 6 and the nut 7.
The short vertically disposed shaft 9 is rotatably supported by means of a suitable support 10 which is fixed to the floor 2. A worm gear 11 is fixed to the shaft 9 and adapted to mesh with a worm 11 fixed to ashaft 12 driven by any suitable power device, such as an electric motor 13. The upper end of shaft 9 is provided with a small gear or pinion 14 adapted to mesh with a gear 15 fixed to a centrally located and vertically disposed drive shaft 15. Shaft 15' is rot-atably supported by means of a suitable support 16 fixed to the floor 2. The upper end of shaft 15 is provided with an opening 17 to receive the shank 18 which has a suitable head 19 formed at its upper end. A set screw 20 holds the shank 18 in its adjusted position. The head 19 can be raised by raising the shank 18 to raise the center of the drum-head 3.
A suitable cross-bar 21 is fixed to rotate with the central shaft 15 a suitable distance below the drum-head 3. This cross-piece is preferably made from material which is a non-conductor to electric currents.
The crossbar 21 is provided near each end with a suitable slotted opening 22. A suitable magnet bar, such as a horse-shoe magnet 23, is resiliently supported in each opening 22, by means of the coiled spring 24 supported at its lower end by means of the holder 25 spanning each opening 22. The upper end of each spring is held in a holder 25 supported by means of the crossbars 26 which are held in contact with the arms of the magnets 23. The bars 26 are clamped to the magnets by means of suitable fasteners 27 so that the bars may be adjusted to various positions along the arms of the magnets. This arrangement permits the poles of the magnets to be adjusted to bear with any desired pressure against the drumhead 3, as is manifest.
Suitable carriers, or solicitors as they may be termed, are adapted to be moved about upon the top of the drum-head 3 and carry suitable advertisements, articles of jewelry, or any article that the magnets can attract and move.
My preferred form of carrier, as shown in Fig. 5, consists of a tubular body 28 having parallel sides. This tubular body 28 is united by means of a solid connection 29 with a tubular tapered body 30, to enable the carriers to travel in a circular path above the magnets 22 during the rotary travel of the magnets.
Each carrier is provided with a suitable card supporting member 31 which is loosely supported by the connection 29. The supporting member 31 has two suitably spaced arms 32 between which a card may be positioned to be carried or dragged by the roller-carrier when it is attracted by the magnets 23.
The carriers may be employed for dragging various light articles in a circular path upon the top face of the drum-head 3. lVhen a card 33 is supported by the carriers, one end thereof is adapted to rest upon the drum-head, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
The operation of the device is as follows:
First the article or articles to be displayed or advertised are attached in some manner to the carriers, or solicitors, then the motor is started so as to revolve the magnets 23 in a circular path below the drum-head 8. The poles of each magnet will attract the soft-iron carriers and will movethem in a circular path upon the top face of the drum-head 3. The tapered end of each carrieris positioned toward the center of the drum-head, or in other words, takes the inside course owing to its smaller diameter over the outer tubular 'body 28. The carriers will always follow the path of travel of the magnet arranged to travel below them, as is manifest.
The many advantages of the herein described invention will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in :the art to which it appertains,
I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself to the details of construction and arrangement as herein described and illus trated, as it is manifest that variations and modifications may be made in the features] of construction and arrangement in the adaptation of the device to various conditions of use without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention and the terms of the following claims, hence I wish it to be understood that I reserve the right to make any such changes or modifications as may fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims when fairly construed.
What I claim is:
1. An advertising device comprising a housing, a suitable flexible top for said housing, a floor in the bottom of said housing,
magnets supported below the top of the housing, means for yieldlngly supporting the magnets so that their poles will contact of the housing to roll in a circular path thereupon when attracted by the movement of the magnets, and a card or article supporting means carried by each roller-carrier.
2. An advertising device comprising a housing, a thin flexible top for said housing, means for holding said top in a stretched position under spring tension, magnets ar ranged below the top, means for supporting said magnets, motor mechanism for imparting rotary movement to said magnets, and roller-carriers supported upon the top of said-housing to be attracted by the magnets and moved in a circular path upon the top of said housing in accordance with the movement f the magnets.
3. An advertising device comprising a housing, a thin flexible top for said housing, means for holding said top in a stretched position upon the upper end of the housing, a floor for said housing, a motor driven mechanism including a central shaft, a cross-bar fixed to the central shaft so as to revolve therewith, a magnet passing through the crossbar near each end thereof having their poles engaging the flexible top of the housing, clamp-bars carried by the arms of the magnets, a coiled spring interposed between the clamp-bars of each magnet and the cross-bar for yieldingly supporting each magnet, a tubular roller-carrier having a taperedinner end mounted upon the flexible top of .the housing above the poles of each magnet for movement in accordance with the magnets rotatably supported below the flexible top of the housing, and a forked article holder carried by each roller-carrier to-support the article to be advertised or displayed.
A magnet follower comprising a hol low tubular body having a straight wall, a hollow tubular tapered body, means for uniting said tubular bodies, and an article supporting means carried by the means for uniting the two tubular bodies.
