Patented Sep.10, 1872.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
MORRILL A. SHEPARD, or LEBANON, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT lN TEMPORARY BINDERS FOR PAPERS.
Specification forming part of Lettcrs Patent No. 131,229, dated September 10, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MoRRILL A. SHEPARD, of Lebanon, in the county of Saint Clair and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and Improved Temporary Binder for Papers; and that the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
Figure l is a sectional view, showing the combination of the different parts. Fig. 2 is a view of the paper-file when locked up and ready for use.
In the drawing, Fig. 1, A A are two suitable bars of wood or metal for clamping the papers, in which are inserted two or more metal points, a a, to hold the papers in their place while .the clamps A A are unscrewed. The stem B has a square end for the purpose of receiving the screw-key, which is merely an ordinary spring clock-key. run on the other end of the stem B up to the collar S on said stem, for the purpose of drawing the two bars A A apart or shut, when required. The collar S also secures the stem B to the bar A. The plate D is secured to the A screw-thread is bar A' by screws, and has a screw-thread in it to receive the stem B. The plate F is also screwed or fastened to the oppositebar A. This plate is constructed so as to receive the stem B between the collars S s. This plate may be made with the notch, as shown, or it may becast onto the stem B between the collars.
The object of this arrangement is to obtain a neat, cheap, and durable paper-file, which can be securely locked by this screw-lock, the look at the same time being entirely out of the way, and answering the twofold purpose of a clamp-screw and lock.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. The screw-lock, consisting of the stem B, collars S '8, plates D F, arranged as described and set forth. a
2. The bars or clamps A A and points a a,
in connection with the screw-lock, the whole being arranged and operating substantially as herein described, and 'for the purpose set
