electrical ignition means.
The invention has forit sprincipal object,
to provide an electrical ignition means, whereby, explosive fuses and other similar devices maybe automatically ignited in an efficient and safe manner, thus, lessening the liability of various forms of accidents, particularly attributable to premature explosions.
Asan object of equalimportance, the invention also aims to provide a novel safety attachment for the ignition means, which attachment will prevent the accidental closing of the igniting or working circuit when it is desired to have the device inoperative.
Among other aims and objects of the invention may be recited, the provision of a device of the character mentioned, with a view to compactness, and in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple, the cost of production small, and efficiency and operation high.
Other improvements and novel details in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the device will be brought out more in detail in the description to follow, which, for a clear understanding of the invention, should be considered in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, and wherein is disclosed, for the purpose of illustration, a convenient and satisfactory embodiment of the invention.

An annular screw threaded sleeve 4 is secured to one end of the member 2, by means of rivets or other similar fastening means 5, it being noted, that the end of the member 2 is extended slightly beyond the insulating covering 3. A second screw threaded sleeve 6 is provided and is turned into engagement with the threads of the sleeve 4, the outer end of the sleeve 6 having an inturned flange 7 formed thereon. A battery 8 is received within the member 2 and has one terminal thereof engaged by a screw threaded cap 9, which is received over the rear or remaining end of the casing 1.

'lghe sparking coil 14 is supported about a suitable core 15, the said sparking coil being secured to the inner face of the base 10 by means of the screw 16 which is passed therethrough and embedded within a portion of of the core 15. A contact cap 17 is arranged over the free end of the sparking coil and is suitably connected therewith, the cap being adapted to normally engage the remaining terminal or pole of the battery 8, thus,af fording means whereby the current may be introduced into the sparking coil 14. The remaining end of the sparking coil is engaged with one of the binding terminals 11, thus, completing one side of the electrical circuit.
A pivotal switch arm 18 is arranged upon the remaining binding terminal 11 and is adapted to rotate freely thereaboutw It is .evident that when the switch arm is swung outwardly, it will engage the flange 7 of the sleeve 6. This sleeve is connected to the tubular member 2, upon which the remaining pole of the battery 8 is grounded. As the sparking coilis connected to the terminals 11, a circuit will beformed over the sparking coil 14;, over the terminals 11 in a connection with the same feed wires of the system, the switch 18 and sleeve 6 together with the casing. However, when the switch arm is swung inwardly from the flange 7, or as shown in Fig. 2, the circuit will be broken.
'The operation of the device may be reviewed as follows:
The lead wires of the ignition system are connected to the binding terminals or posts 11, whereupon the safety switch 18 is swung to a point whereat it will engage a, portion of the sleeve 6. To render the device inoperative, the safety switch 18 is moved to a neutral position.
The foregoing description and the drawings have reference to what may be considered the preferred, or approved form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in construction and arrangement and combination of parts, material, dimensions, et cetera, as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An ignition device, including, in combination with a portable casin carrying a source of electrical energy, which is connected thereto, an insulating base removably secured to said casing, binding terminals on said base, a sparking coil carried by the base and connected with one of said circuit terminals and said source of electrical energy, and
a pivotal switch arm arranged upon the remaining terminal adapted for engagement with the casing whereby the passage of current through said terminals may be controlled.
2. An igniting device including a portable casing carrying a source of electrical energy, which is connected thereto, binding terminals carried upon and insulated from said casing, a sparking coil connected with one of said circuit terminals and said source of electrical energy, and a pivoted switch arm arranged upon the remaining terminal adapted for engagement when said casing, whereby the passage of current through said terminals may be controlled.
