To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LEO ATANASOFF, a subject ,of the King ofGreece, but having declared my intention to become a citizen of the United States, and resident of Mil waukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tie- Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to new and. useful improvements in neck-tie holding devices, more particularly of that type comprising a body or frame member about which the neck-tie may be disposed'to effect a conventional knot, or a simulation thereof, and

which is utilized to secure the neck-tie in associating the same therewith, whereby by the aid of my device, a neck-tie may be mounted in the collar in an attractivemanner With a minimum amount of effort and Without necessarily requiring the exercise of any particular sklll 1n effecting this operation.

A further object resides in the provision of a neck-tie holding device which is adjustable in nature to adapt the device for various types of ties.

With the above and other objects and advantages in view, my invention resides more particularly in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter described and out in the appended claims.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, my device includes a V-shaped frame plate section 5, to the outer ends of which are ivoted the ends of inner link plates 6 whlch have their other ends pivoted in turnlto ends of outer link plates:7, a fold able frame being thus provided which may be manipulated to assume various shapes for various desired tie arrangements, the pivotal joints of the frame sections being stiff whereby to frictionally hold the sections in desired relation. 1

The collar button associated with this frame comprises the usual ball head 8, shank 9 and base 10, the peripheral edge ofthe base beinginturnedto form an annular securing channel for the ends of oppositely bent springs 11 disposed in the base, havingtheir intermediate portions resiliently urged togetherat the center thereof. The shank 9 is hollow and the head 8 is apertured in alinement with the passage of the shank for the reception of a flattened locking pin 12 passed through the apex portion of the V-shaped frame section 5, the side of the free end of this pin being provided with notches 13 engageable by the intermediate portionsof the springs 11 of the button base, whereby to .yieldably hold the pin in the collar button. Thus, after the collar has been buttoned on the collar button in the usual manner, a tie carried by the frame may beproperlyl mounted and held in position by inserting the pin 12 of the frame through the collar button.

Figs. 1 and 2 show a neck-tie associated with the frame in such manner as to present the appearance of a conventional Ascot tie. In this arrangement, a loop 14 is provided on the head ofthe pin 12 at the forward side of the frame. The intermediate frame link sections-6 are arranged to extend in the direction of and form continuations of the legs of the V-shaped frame section 5 and the outerframe link sections 7 are directed inwwardly', thus forming a substantially triangular frame. The tie fabric is then passed between the sides of the frame and directed forwardly about the link sections 5 and then directed downwardly, the front and rear stretches of tie fabric thus defined be ing preferably connected and constricted be low the frame member by an ornamental ring 15 disposed thereabout, which however, forms no material part of my invention. The frame holds the loop portion of the tie fabric in extended position, simulating a neck-tie arrangement of the Ascot t pe, and thus an attractive appearance of t e tieis procured, and the tie is efliciently mounted without the necessity of forming the conventional knot and without the necessity of extending the tie around the neck of the wearer, the tie formed being secured on the collar button as heretofore described by inserting the pin 12 in the collar button. A considerable economy of tie material is thus eflected, it being noted that in this use of my device, a strip of fabric may be employed for the tie which need not necessarily be previously made up for use as a necktie.

In Fig. 4 is shown the use of my device in connection with the made-up type of bow tie, having the wings an adapted to engage between the folds of a turn-down collar. In this arrangement, the intermediate frame link sections 6 are bent downwardly to lie at acute angles with respect to the legs of the V-shaped section 5 and the outer frame links 7 are bent to extend divergently outward with respect to the intermediate frame links 6, thus defining in conjunction therewith V-shaped frame portions, each adapted to receive one of the wings a of the tie. Thus a positive holding for the tie wings is afforded and the tie may be securely mounted either in conjunction with a straight or turndown collar by inserting the pin 12 of the frame in the collar button.

In Fig. 5, my device is shown in association with the four-in-hand type of necktie, and in this use of the device, the frame links 6 are extended in the direction of and form continuations of the legs of the frame section 5, the frame links 7 being directed outwardly in parallel relation, and thus disposed at obtuse angles to the links 6. The ordinary four-inhand knot is then made directly on the

5 and 6 of the frame, it being noted that the distance between the outer ends of the intermediate frame link6 is less than the width of the upper portion of the tie, and the frame links 7 project from the upper portion of the tie to form wings for retaining the tie in the collar when the pin 12 of the frame has been inserted in the collar button. Thus, as in the arrangement of Figs. 1 and 2, an attractive tie may be formed without the necessity of passing the neck-tie through the collar.

While I have shown a specific preferred embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that to meet differing conditions of use, various changes and modifications of structure may be employed. For instance, the pivoted relation of the link portions of the frame may be varied so that the device may rigidly assume various of the positions shown, thus eliminating adjustable features of the individual device, and in such in stance, the link sections 6 would form rigid outer portions of the legs of the V-shaped head section 5.

What is claimed is:

1. A neck-tie holdin device comprising a V-shaped body meniber adapted to receive portions of a neck-tie thereabout for securement thereto, and a pin extending laterally from the apex portion of said body member for securement to a collar button.

2. The combination with a collar button having a passage there-through of a neck tie holding member adapted to receive portions of a neck-tie there-about for securement thereto, a pin extending from said neck-tie holding member for engagement in the passage of the collar button and means for yieldably holding the pin in the passage of the collar button.

3. A neck-tie holding device comprising a V-shaped head section, intermediate links pivoted to the ends of the legs of said V-shaped head section, outer links pivoted to the outer ends of said intermediate links, said links being adapted to assume various positions with respect to the head section for attachment of a neck-tie thereto, and means carried by the head section for attaching said section to a collar button.

4. A neck-tie holding device comprising a frame, a tie receiving loop projecting laterally from one corner portion of the frame, and means carried by said corner portion of the frame for securing the frame to a collar button.
